"I don't know... maybe I'm just being paranoid after last time we went out." He shrugged it off and asked... "So how do I load this thing?'

Linx demonstrated with his own weapon. "First, you have to unlatch this cap... Here, and then crank the spring back until it can't crank anymore. It's the knob on top of the breech. From there you put a shell in the back end of the barrel, close it and you're good to go. It takes around a dozen full rotations."

Imitates Linx. "Alright... I wish we had something to practice on and aim at out here..."
Almost as an afterthought. "You know... like a tree."

OOC: Don't go all present-tense-no-direct-subject on me.
BIC: "One shot only," Linx replied. "Not that many trees and not that much ammo to start with." Linx opened his fire thrower, removed the shell, closed it and pulled the trigger, releasing the spring and preventing the constant tension from wearing it down.

Points in the distance. "Well, there's that... green thing with the spikes and flowers on it... the prickly tree." Snaps his fingers trying to remember the name... "You get them a lot in deserts..."

"Cactus?" Linx hoped he wasn't getting a weird look. "You learn things when you read, you know. Try pulling the trigger sometime soon. You'll like the lightshow."

"Hey! I once owned the complete works of poetry by King Mortspear and all of 'Memoirs of a Fiend: The Complete Thoughts of Vilu Daskar'. I can even recite most of Mortspear from memory.
The fangs of time encroach me Oh where hath my blade dropped In it's daily pillage of my soul Doth I learn it's absence's cost.
Just because one lived at sea and the other ruled in the north is no reason to mark my lack of knowledge of your 'cattusk' as a character fla-"Somewhere in the rant, he pulls the trigger, lighting up the gray skies and scorching a spot on the ground.... "Oooh.... pretty."

"Next time," Linx advised, "Look along those little things we call sights and you can actually aim. Someday people will do that regularly. ...Let's go already, I want to try out the CAR and ammo is too expensive to waste on the air."

"Right behind you." Auric doubted it would be nearly as fun as the one in his paws, though. "Soo... CAR... That stands for something, I believe."

OOC: Paws, pal.
BIC: "It stands for Compressed Air Repeater. Like a repeater rifle except each round has its own self-contained cylinder full of extremely compressed air, thus the name. A strike to the valve ring at the base of the cartridge and the seal connecting it to the bullet shatters, and it flies off. The best part, though," Linx continued, "is that since the source of energy is from the projectile, not the spring, I fashioned a little piston here that siphons off a little of the compressed air to drive the spring back and essentially cock it again. Do you know what that means?" He paused for effect. "It means I can hold the trigger down and it'll just keep firing on its own until there's no more ammunition in the magazine."

"So it's a repeater rifle for lazy people?" He raised a brow, finding the concept a wee bit distasteful.

"It's a repeater rifle for people who want to clear an entire mob of beasts and also want to live through it," Linx explained. "I didn't make this for luxury purposes. And don't tell me I'm lazy, it takes over half an hour to make a single bullet. As opposed to roughly four minutes for each more mass-produced standard rifle bolt."

"Well, when you put it like that..." He ran his paw over his head, though taking care not to disturb the bandage on his head. "You're saying the real revolutions's not the gun, but in the bullet's themselves? That's a novel concept. That's like arrows being more expensive than bows..."

"This thing itself really isn't that expensive," Linx admitted. "Aside from the piston and the cartridge ejection system nothing on it is that new for me and I can fill out the molds for it and bolt one together in less than a couple of hours. But a magazine full of all 30 bullets... That can take up an entire day. The pressure lock is just so delicate. These things are a whole different deal from what I've been working with, they don't even need the studs to lock into the spiral grooves since the burst of air actually distorts them upon firing and it's forced in." He paused for a moment. "Am I rambling? This is a whole lot of experimentation and research pouring out now."

Auric, despite being highly educated and more experienced in violence than should be legally possible, could only nod his head. "Can we shoot something now?"
