"Let you? What do you mean, let you? You're free to check one out of the armory whenever you want! ...Besides, there aren't any bows or crossbows left in there, so have fun trying to be old-fashioned with standard issue around here." Linx may have had military fire but most of it was just inventive energies channeled into weapons. He could easily hold his own in a battle, but it wasn't his priority. Besides, the tavern was coming up and he didn't want to ruin it with yelling and waving a sword around.

"Oh, ok sounds good, but i'll probably hate it just because its 'new' technology and i'm not very good with it." Cressida replied. Finally someone that isn't a fake, i've been looking for a true warrior that could help me become the best warrior I could possibly be, but after my brother's death i haven't found him, until now.

"What do you mean, not very good with it? I can't think of an easier weapon to use than the bolt repeater. Cleaning, well, that's another story, but even that isn't much of a challenge. If you're wondering what makes it worth the complexity, though, I'll give you a rundown of why the bolt repeater has kicked the crossbow off the stage around here... Uh, first thing, it's about as powerful as your typical light crossbow, but it's way more compact. It uses a steel coil spring instead of those bulky wooden arms and string in order to launch the bolt, which is made of all aluminum so it's much more compact and dense, and a pair of spiraling grooves in the barrel give it a corkscrewing spin so it doesn't go out of control even without flights. Second thing, it's way easier to cock. You know on a crossbow how you have to reach over to draw the spring back? With the bolt repeater, you don't have to take any paws off the weapon to fire it, you just pump the foregrip back, which pushes against the coil spring, and when you return it to home position the spring stays back, thanks to the sear holding it in place. Also, as far as not taking paws off the weapon, it's fed by a ten-bolt magazine which fits in underneath it, so you only have to reload every ten shots. Also, it's far easier to fire and aim. It's extremely ergonomic compared to traditional crossbows and the sights on the top allow you to aim very precisely. It can also accept a bayonet on the front, a blade protruding off the weapon just underneath the barrel, so you can use it as a makeshift spear... Oh, and you can break a jaw if you hit it with the stock. Way more robust than a crossbow."
Linx took a deep breath when he was done. "Does that convince you?"

Cressida laughed "Maybe I could get used to it...it does sound pretty easy to use, and heck if its what everyone is using these days why not join them?"

"Exactly. For once, popular interests make sense. Of course, they also make me filthy rich, I get to sell so many weapons... You want to go up to the fort and try one out?" There were about two hundred of them just sitting in the armory, assuming one third of them was checked out at any given point in time. It wouldn't be hard to acquire and practice with one. "...Then again, I donate most of my money back to the fort, and village projects from time to time..."

"This is a spy I captured and I'm taking her to the fort to kill her," Linx responded sarcastically. "Her name's Cressida, she's kinda new around here, don't hit her with anything, OK?"

"We were just heading up to the Fort, you want to join in? I figure an introduction to the bolt repeater is in order." Linx kept walking, letting Aldar keep in pace himself. "We have a couple hundred to pick from, not like we'll be short on weapons..."

"It seems so. I've taught the bolt repeater to so many beasts that it's become possible to do without really thinking about it now... I'm gonna use the opportunity to get some practice in, and you're free to as well." Aldar... Why do you keep tantalizing me with your presence? Linx glanced back at Cressida expectantly.

"Good..." They were nearing the gatehouse now. As usual, it was open, so Linx passed through without any trouble. "Let's get to that armory, shall we? If you haven't been there for some reason, it's the little extension on the side of the barracks..."

"Ive lived here forever, and Im sure she has to. I think we would know where the armory is." Aldar laughed. "Well lets get to it then." Aldar walked inside of the armory, which was absolutly stuffed with weapons.
