The waves rose and fell softly upon the sea. The pristine blue waters where clear and reflective, beaming the bright morning sunlight back into the sky. The two ships that floated on the water seemed nothing out of the ordinary, but they where just the opposite.
Aboard the deck of the Bloodtide vermin of all species, sizes and shapes where sharpening weapons, bickering, eating, carving, or trying to sleep. Very few where working. Suddenly a heavy wooden door at the far end of the deck carved with horrific images banged open. A huge fox strode out as if he owned the place which, in fact, he did. The deck fell silent as all activity was ceased.
The fox, who towered over all others on the ship walked slowly down the middle of the the deck to the bow and peered at the dark barely perceptible smudge of land on the horizon. He was dressed in a short kilt and sharkskin belt, through which he carried a wicked looking chain and mace. His green eyes scanned the land, taking in what he could before he spun and faced his crew.
"Gentlemen, play time is over. Lower the sails to half mast and collapse the main mast. Send a message to the Hunter. tell them to stay back out of sight of land. They won't be able to see us yet and that is how I intend to keep it. Steers beast, direct our course so that we are angle horizontal to the mainland. We don't want to run right into them. First mate attend me in my cabin. There are plans to be made."
the ship instantly became a hive of activity, with skinny vermin clambering nimbly up the rat lines and masts. The steers beast spun the wheel a bit to alter the course slightly. No one was left standing still. No one dared disobey Xoreb Chesav.

Waves from the same sea that bore the evil fox and his crew slapped up on the shore, dragging sand and seashells back into it's depths, only to throw them back up again. A force of nature at work.
Of course very few beasts where contemplating the oddities of nature at Otter Fort. Most sensible beasts where rushing to and fro working, sparring, talking or going somewhere. Most of these animals where otters but scattered among them where squirrels, mice, hedgehogs, hares and even the occasional badger.
Life at Otter Fort was rarely still, and it was about to get a whole lot busier though no one knew it.
