Linx didn't need an escort to do damage. When he heard about a vermin encampment at the northwest corner of the forest– dangerously close to the fort's southern trade lines– he went to investigate alone. The mouse carried his newly revamped CEL, complete with a full high-capacity magazine of seven shells and two more such magazines in his pants pockets.
He would have had them in his coat but he was traveling light, with his normal wear from the waist down but just the vest for his upper body. This did nothing to conceal the straps reaching across his chest to support a newly modified CLOS, which now fired chemical percussion rounds for increased reliability and far greater power. It didn't hide his rake sword, either, sheathed in its solid ebony scabbard that had cost him a fortune to get.
This array was more than sufficient to eliminate thirty vermin or so. He marched out the gates all by himself and not a single sentry even asked where he was going.

Aral raised an eye as he watched Linx go out with his new proto-type weapon. He called for a nearby trooper to take his spot and hurried out behind Linx. He had his twin daggers and a CAR, along with two incindinary agents. He called out to Linx quietly. "Where you going?"

"I'm going to go kill some vermin," Linx cheerfully responded. "Is that an original CAR there? Wow, haven't seen that in a while, the CAR2 is way better... So is the new chemical ammunition. I guess I just haven't seen you enough lately to pass these things on." He stopped walking a bit abruptly and turned on one heel to face Aral with his entire body. "What, do you want to follow?"

He chuckled at the statement of his own CAR. He liked it, so he continued using it. He shrugged his shoulders and said "Do you mind?"

"No, but the chemical ammunition is cheaper, more powerful and it cycles better," Linx replied with a smile. "Bit more high-maintenance, though, all that soot... Anyway, let's get out there and end lives like we always do. Just not ours."

Heh, never our lives of course. **He flipped the CAR over his back. And said to Linx** Could I get one of the CAR 2s with chemical ammunition? How many vermin? Do you know?

"You could, but it'd cost about 40 coins excluding ammunition, about thirty vermin, and, obviously... I know." Linx exited the gates and headed off in the general direction that scouts had determined the camp to be in. All that was left to do was to destroy them.

He nodded and broke into a small jog to keep up with the genius mouse. He inquired "Where do you come up with all these ideas?

"With my left ear, Aral," Linx shot back sarcastically. He'd been asked possibly the worst question anyone could ever ask him, and as a result, he didn't react very well. "I just do, OK? Can you ask me that some other time when I'm not, you know, thinking about killing some vermin?"
