"I don't know. Unlike some people, I don't plan everything out. I much prefere to live each day as it comes."
Shaking her head sadly, Zahi looked once more along the path towards the fort.

"In that case, Zahi, you're going to love being around me. It's not just the days that come in my world." Linx smirked as the fort began to loom over them. The walls had been refitted a few times over the years and they were now not only angled to deflect projectiles and make it nearly impossible to reliably put up a siege ladder, but so high that they had to be held up with metal foundations. "But you should plan more, if not everything. It makes each day worth more to have every past day behind it."

"A day in the past is always there to look back on... The future is always uncertain, and yet... The present is the all you CAN live for really."
Looking up as they entered the fort's shadow, Zahi shook her head again.
"But I doubt you really want a lesson in ethics and beliefs from me huh?"

"No, that'd be interesting, actually, but that had nothing to do with ethics, it had nothing to do with morality. Beliefs, well, what kind of lesson is that?" Having tossed Zahi's words out the window, Linx passed under the gargantuan stone arch without further comment. Their future actions weren't totally set in stone, in the long term, anyway. If Raiden declined for some reason, he'd simply have to find some other mouse.

"Which is my point."
Looking at the forest one last time before the gates closed again, Zahi cocked her head to one side beofre sighing.
"Time to go talk to Raiden... Where do you want him to meet you?"

"My room. In the barracks, not my house. That's no place for a conversation like this." Linx was surprised to hear the gates close. Most of the time, they were just left open to provide for low maintenance. Perhaps the alert had been raised. Even if it had been, though, he wasn't on duty or anything. But I do have a CHAR! "I'll be there. If he doesn't show up within the hour... I'll take it as a no."

"Okay... I'll let him know."
At that, Zahi headed off via the deserted Main road to the residential area and then to the barracks to talk to Raiden.

Linx took the equally desolate back roads to make his armament less widely known, as if anyone was watching. He went straight past his own house without even looking at it and entered the inner fort without a word, and subsequently his long-unused room in the barracks. Despite all it'd witnessed, it looked nearly unoccupied.

Roughly an hour later, Raiden knocked on the door of Linx's old room and waited for him to answer, a look of puzzlement on his face.
Why did Zahi ask me to talk to him I wonder... I guess I'll find out shortly...

Linx had been actually leaning against the door while pondering what he'd say, and opened it promptly. He greeted Raiden with a welcoming smile. "Hey, Raiden, good to see you... Despite whatever memories you might have tied to the room, I'm just using it as a quiet place to talk right now."

"So I figured... Zahi said you wanted to talk to me about something, but she wouldn't tell me what. Care to fill me in as to what it is?"
Walking in and sitting on the edge of the bed, Raiden looked over at Linx.

"Oh, for the... You sound like Zahi with this 'care to' sentence fragment stuff." Linx grinned with a bit more humor as he shut the door. Once it was securely closed, though, he adopted a more solemn look towards the older mouse. "This time I think I'll be needing to ask for permission. Nothing with you, directly, I mean. It pertains to Zahi."

"Where do you think she got it from? It wasn't the kids for one..."
Blinking a few times at Link's following words, Raiden cocked his head to one side.
"What? I have no idea what you mean..."

"Care to pay attention to the real world?" Linx chuckled softly while slowly moving to sit down beside Raiden, just inches from his fellow mouse. Hopefully, it'd be staying that way. "Look... Raiden... I can summarize my request with a statement, not a question. I don't want to be the last in my bloodline."

"You means to say... that you want me to agree to you and Zahi getting together hand having a child? What's in it for me? I can't agree to something like this without getting something in return."
With his eyes narrowing into a frown, Raiden didn't stop looking at Linx, keeping his eyes on him, watching him intently even.
