Emeral emerged from her little cave in the ground. It served its purpose well, giving her shelter even in the heaviest storm, and it didn't cost one coin. She glanced around a bit, seeing the fort in the distance, and got ready to walk another mile to get there. Emeral took no chances letting others see her home, including vermin, so this far location was perfect for her.
In the distance she could see dibbuns playing around on the beach near the fort. Many new ones were showing up, as the fort became more family welcomed. She would have to go the long way around, instead of walking along the beach, for once more, she did not want to take any chances of people figuring out where she lived.

It wasn't often that Dengoro saw another skunk that wasn't related to him. After his father died, he hadn't spotted a single one of his species in the entire fort, and he was beginning to doubt that there were any other skunks residing there at all. That was, in fact, the case; Emeral didn't live in the fort, after all.
He was just strolling on the dry plains just before the beach, in truth. Not expecting to see anyone at all, the skunk spotted a number of civilians out on the sand, taking note of them but continuing as if they weren't there. However, when seeing a distinctive black and white shape crossing the grassy area he was standing in the middle of, he was stopped right in his tracks. "Hey..."

Emeral felt foolish not to notice another skunk right in front of her. She was far enough from her home, however, to have him not notice. She was almost to the fort, and after releasing a quiet sigh turned to face the other skunk. It must have been the skunk Linx mentioned. "Err hello." She said quietly.

Dengoro advanced forward cautiously. The voice and appearance of this new beast were definitely that of a female, which surprised him only slightly. He wouldn't want to be without a female skunk in his life, anyway. Wait, what? Am I planning life stuff? This is ridiculous, I've known this one for... Ten seconds. "Uh... What's your name?"

"Err...Emeral, you must be Dengoro right? Linx told me about you..." She stared at Dengoro, wondering if that even was his name. It would be an odd situation if it wasn't.

"Uh... Yeah... You know Linx, uh, Emeral?" Speech was harder for him than he had expected it to be. Emeral's demeanor was so subdued that he could think of her as another version of himself without difficulty. The fact that she knew Linx, though, could at least give them some common ground on which to base further conversation.

"Yes, saw him in the tavern...once..."She glanced sideways, looking at the beach, then knew she would have to get to work soon. Little did she know, though, today was not one of the days she had to work. "So Dengoro, what are you doing out here? I actually need to get to the fort soon...but..." She cut off there so not to wonder on without an answer.

"I'm just walking, but, uh... What's your job?" It was very unlikely that she had weekend work, and Dengoro found it to be a bit of a shock that she said that. He didn't have to do anything himself and was left wondering how low off she was from a financial standpoint. "Working this day of the week?..."

"I err... cook in the market...wait..." She hit herself in the head. "Heh...I don't have to work today! Well that was stupid of me." She smiled dumbly, and wondered why she forgot that she didn't have to work today.

"Oh, yeah, well... Don't go there, I guess, they won't pay you," Dengoro smiled. It was easier to talk when odd things happened, which was a bit contradictory under most circumstances. Apparently, though, it wasn't so then. "And... Where do you live? I'm guessing outside the fort, you're going to it... Do you live in a coastal village or what?"

"Uhh...yeah you could say that." Emeral asked to herself why he had to bring THAT up of all things. Either way though, why should she tell him the truth, it would be someone who could tell other people, leading to an epidemic of knowledge that she did not want others to know.

"Uh... Where is it?" Lies didn't really get anywhere. Dengoro wasn't going to do anything with what he learned; he was simply curious. Whether Emeral lived in a prestigious estate or hole in the ground, the latter actually being the case, he wasn't going to think much different of her. He'd just met her, of course.

"Err..." Why did it have to come to this? She cursed at her inability to lie easily then decided more lies would get her nowhere now. "Right, its more of a tunnel system..." There were a few other nomatic people that she shared some tunnels around her's with, and really it was a "coastal village."

"You live in a... Tunnel system." It was a hole in the ground, then. Dengoro suddenly found himself feeling rather bad for Emeral, who, he realized, was basically homeless. He felt the impulse to take her back with him and acted on it. "OK, well... You wanna walk with me? I'm heading back now..."

"Well, I was going there anyway, so why not." She quickly came closer to Dengoro to walk beside him. She had nothing better to do, and he was the only other skunk she even knew of, besides her family.
