Terg sat in the slightly damp grass on the out skirts of the training grounds. He watched as otters, squirrels, moles, mice and others trained and sparred. The tunic he wore over his trousers was slightly wet but he didn't mind.
Terg had sparred others so often in his life, it had started to become a meaningless exercise. Fighting, but not really fighting. That's what it was. Sparring seemed to be the answer to many questions. I'm bored. What should I do? Spar. I'm angry. What should I do? Spar. I'm hyper. What should I do? Spar. It was becoming so... what was the right word... normal? It was part of his every day life but it seemed like he rarely got to use his skills any more in a real battle. Sure he was one of the senior warriors in the fort but that didn't mean he could smell vermin a mile away. He always had to wait for them to come to him. And they hardly ever did.
Sighing, he rose and was surprised to here his knees pop. True he wasn't getting any younger but he really wasn't that old. He was still in his prime.
His broadsword still lay on his bunk back in the barracks, freshly polished with military efficeny, but he didn't want to spar with that anyway. Instead he stroad slowly over to the rack of wooden weapons. He selected a broadsword from the jumble of wood and hefted it. Not as heavy as his own broadsword but that was to be expected since it was wooden. Like all the other weapons it had large chips taken out of it. The pommel and handle where worn smooth by the many paws that had wielded it.
Twirling the wood to get a feel for it, Terg also selected a long wooden knife from the inventory of weapons. The knife was just as worn as the sword but still servicable.
OOC: Sloppy and lots of worthless stuff in there, sorry.

As Terg swung his broadsword behind his head it was stopped quite suddenly by another wooden weapon. A familiar voice sounded off behind Terg, "It's been Awhile old friend!" Thaddius stood wearing his big otter grin waiting for Terg to turn around. .

OOC: Sorry it took so long to post...
BIC: Terg felt his blade strike somthing with jarring force. The voice behind him was familiar and he spun around to face Thaddius, his grin matching his friend's. "'lo mate. Long time no see, eh? But then again I guess there has been a lot of sea in your recent adventures." He slapped his old friend on the back, in a friendly manner. "Care fer a spar? Jus' like old times?"
Terg hefted his sword and grinned mischieviously at Thadd, hoping he would except the challange.

OOC: I want to spectate!
BIC: Justyn looked up from his book while leaning on the wall, identifying two familiar faces, he decided that he needed to maintain the few relationships he still had around the place. He ran as fast as he could to the edge of the sparring ring and shouted, "Hey! Let's see it! I wanna see Terg in action again!"
It was a two-fold statement, a dig at Thaddius, because of Justyn's utter lack of interest in, or ignorance of Thaddius, and a greeting to Terg.

"well har har har Justyn!", Thaddius said with a grin. "well just maybe you will see Our mate here in action." thaddius looked back to Terg, "It's been awhile since the two biggest otters have faced off eh pal!" Thaddius lifted his wooden sword a bit feelin the balance and grabbed two short wooden swords and put them in his belt before turning back to terg holding the longsword. "Captain now isn't it mate?"

Terg glanced over at Justyn. "Hey Justyn! You can sit there and watch me beat the insolenence offa this rouge's face!"
He swung his attention back to Thaddius sword held firmly in a ready postion. He slid back into a ready stance in preperation for the first blow. Terg ran his eyes up and down Thaddius's body, checking for hidden weapons. Then he fixed his eyes on the center of Thaddius's chest, where he could see best all the strikes thrown at him.
"Captain now isn't it mate?"
"H'aye tha' et is. But only when I'm dishin' out orders. No need to go callin' me tha' all the time, ya 'ear? If ya do I'll make sure your stuck in the gaurd house for a full week!" said Terg good naturedly. "Now let's spar, shall we?"

"Aye!" Justyn jumped, paw striking the sky above, "Go for it Terg! No need to hold back!" Justyn held a paw up hiding his mouth from Thaddius, "Even though he's a bit out of practice lately!"
Justyn was ecstatic with anticipation for the near conflict, fighting had always been, and probably always would be a deep interest for him...

Terg growled in an almost playful manner and made the first move. It was a simple approach really. It's success depended on speed and power, two things he knew he had. He swung his sword at neck hight toward Thaddius, turning his body sideways so he could use his hips to add power. This also made his body thinner, thus a smaller target.

Thaddius saw the attack comming and ducked under the blade barley making it in time, "you've gotten faster." Thaddius continued his motion down forcing his momentum into low sweep kick aimed at Terg's ankles"

Terg grunted inwardly as Thaddius ducked under his blade.
"you've gotten faster."
"You're not to slow yourself," he replied. As soon as Thaddius dropped though he leaped back. He had enough experience to know that from a low postion it was easiest to strike low, either with a blade or a leg sweep. Thaddius's paw wooshed powerfully by his ankles, missing him barely.

Justyn's eyes narrowed as he examined the two skillful veterans, he smirked, "teh, what are you doing Thaddius!?" Justyn chuckled, he had three favorite things in the world, friends, healing and fighting, now, he might get a chance at all three.

As Thaddius was finishing his spin he sheathed the longsword and unsheathed his wooden daggers. "sparring what do you think?", Thaddius replied to Justyn. He came out of his crouch in a leap to wards Terg

Terg stood firmly and met Thaddius straight on.He locked blades with him and weighed the situation quickly. On one hand Thaddius had two blades, while Terg was required to use both paws to control the big broadsword. On the other hand, Terg had the longer blade by far. He would have to keep Thaddius at swords lenghth so that he couldn't get any blows in with his knife.

Thaddius held his two blades hard against Tergs . He knew his opportunities to get close where going to be slim so he might as well act now. " RAAAAH let's go!" Thaddius suddenly turned his body sideways letting Terg's force move forward and slashed out at his chest while continuing his spiining motion to end up behind Terg. This was to be an epic dual. ooc: sorry it took me so long to post
