A cool breeze blew across the Western Flatlands, the tall golden grass swaying in perfect rhythm with the autumn wind. It was a cold day, the powder blue sky obscured by clouds, the golden sun making appearances from time to time.
All in all, it was a nice autumn day.
The beauty was lost upon Thaddeus Firelough. The river otter sighed, briefly closing his emerald green eyes in a gesture of dismay. The wind sent his forest-green cloak billowing in the wind, but the warrior made no move to draw back the folds. Nothing could stop the cold that was slowly enveloping his heart.
A town on the Western Flatlands had been suffering from bandit attacks, and had turned to Otter's Fort for help. Thaddeus' small patrol had been sent to investigate, to see if Otter's Fort could deal with the problem.
From his position on the ridge, Thaddeus could see the town below, a small collection of woodframe houses, had no wall. No wonder the bandits had been pillaging it.
The river otter gestured to his patrol, "Come, let's check this out."

OOC: Hm, I'm gonna join, but who should join? By the way, join a squad IC: Sinthin glanced at Thaddeus "Come, Let's check this out THe black river otter nodded and worked his way down the ridge. He was at the front, he whispered back to Thaddeus. I'll go in and see what's happening. OK?
OOC: Bad post...

ooc: Eh, I've seen worse. Anyone can join, no restrictions.
bic: "Alright, be careful." Thaddeus saluted Sinthin, "Note anything suspicious."

OOC: Lol, like that... Oh, ya, by the way, most of the time we actually follow a trainee thing, If you just joined, chances are you won't lead a patrol, as you stay here longer you will figure it out. For instance, One of my characters, Aral, would lead one, why he has been at the fort for a long time, Sinthin wouldn't, he hasn't been here long. Just a thing that was driving Linx up the wall, just wait abit, if you want to start one, let someone that has been here for a long time know, and they will start one.
Oh ya, and this site follows real seasons, so it would be spring wind. Sorry, don't worry about it, just something someone pointed out to me a minute ago
IC: He headed down the cliff and into the village. The village was quiet, it almost looked like it was deserted, he headed towards a house and knocked on the door, no one answered, this time he knocked a bit harder. A mouse carefully opened the door a small dagger in his hands. Sinthin held up his paws, showing he meant no harm. He asked him what was going on. After the mouse explained Sinthin told him he would be right back.
He headed up the cliff till he was back at the top. He nodded acknowledgment to Thaddeus and the other members of the squad.

Archon just hated getting sent out on patrol. Especially when it was labeled 'patrol' but actually an investigation, or perhaps even an all-out defense. He'd been given a standard-issue bolt repeater on the way out the gates and promptly returned it to the bemused sentry who had distributed the weapons in the first place, favoring his own, more customized model over what the fort's stores had to offer. Even if his mate designed them, this one was his favorite.
Now his trusted weapon was cradled in one arm with the safety on and no rounds chambered as the mouse approached the front of the patrol. Despite his role as squad leader he was trying to maintain as low a profile as he could, which was actually pretty easy to do so long as he wasn't stuck with having to give a bunch of orders at once. Of course, it looked like he wouldn't be giving any orders but rather receiving information, as Sinthin returned to the group unhurt and apparently hale. "Sinthin," Archon called out. Whoever put them on the same patrol was an idiot. "You find anything interesting down there, or do these guys just want attention?"

Nothing, the mouse I met said that they had been raided, but it was awhile ago. Seems as if it was a bust. **The otter shrugged his shoulders and glanced around.**
OOC: Sorry, but Archon would be squad leader... Since he is one anyway...

"OK, boys, unroll the mobile palisade, let's fortify this place!" Archon promptly let out a dry, humorless laugh. "What are we supposed to do? ...People, let's go down there and check for any shred of evidence the raiders left, ask around among the villagers, too. I don't want to sound like some kind of professional investigator here, but that's what the situation demands, we have a better idea of who we're dealing with if we can match this attack's instigators with any past ones, and if not, we get to create a profile." The mouse paused for a second or two when he was done with his lecture. "Am I clear?"

ooc: Never said I was leading the patrol. This forum is going to be fun.
bic: "As glass, sir," Thaddeus said, a grim smile on his face.

OOC: You gave orders to other patrol members. That entails leading it, am I wrong?
BIC: "You can stop looking like you're going into battle now, Thaddeus," Archon advised with a vaguely amused smirk. "Body language belies your words. I said investigating and I meant it, now, let's go, people!" With that, the mouse turned and started heading down to the village. He certainly looked a lot more imposing with a repeater under his arm than he might have looked unarmed.

ooc: Could be...
bic: Thaddeus walked into the village, noting every feature, every detail of the empty town.
A slight tingle of metal on metal resounded as the steel toe of the river otter's knee-high leather boot struck something. Thaddeus knelt to examine what he had stepped on.
It was a dagger, the blade curved. A symbol: a black and white circle, the halves seperated by a sinuous line.
"Commander! I've found something!"

OOC: Linx, remember, MY JOB! Linx remember the symbol, that's same one we destroyed in our god battle. Remember that? IC: Sinthin turned at the exclamation, he shushed. He jogged over. It was a dagger, curved, black and white on the hilt, interesting.

"Who's a commander now? Do I look like Linx?" Archon strolled casually to where Sinthin was holding up a curved dagger. The symbol on it was plainly recognizable to him, even from his distant position. "OK, we have a clue as to who these guys are. Although the fact that they'd leave a dagger on the street makes it look like they want to be known."

ooc: I actually got the symbol from The Wheel of Time series.
bic: Thaddeus handed the dagger to Sinthin, standing up as he did.

OOC: No problemo IC: He tossed the blade to Archon, stupid to do. But he tossed it hilt first, knowing the agile mouse would catch it. And responding to his comment at once "No, not at all. Your better...

"What does the symbol stand for?" Thaddeus asked, genuinely curious.
