Ronin's paw was finally able to reach the teacup and saucer that was in the back corner and he reappeared from his trip inside the cupboard. There! They were all clear and clean! The shrew straightened the apron he had put on when he had first started washing dishes and smoothed his ruffled headfur back down. Actually, it wasn't quite long enough to lay flat, but he liked to think it would. One of these days he would win his battle with it, maybe by finding some hair cement or gel that didn't stink to high heaven. That was a day that his spiky headfur would be sorry it had caused him so much trouble. The fur in question sprang back upright after the shrew's paw had passed over it, quite oblivious that its owner was plotting against it. It was just doing what natural shrew headfur did.
He took a glance at the teacup he had pulled out, raising a suprised eyebrow at it. It was small and delicate. Amazing that it survived so long here. The cup and saucer were a deep purple color. However, all over them was a design in silver paint that looped, swirled and gyred all over. The handle on the cup was silver as was the rim. It was the most beautiful teacup he had ever seen. He set it gently down on a ledge behind a sink that was intended for pawrings and such to be placed when one was washing dishes.
Lore approached him and he saw that she had finished with her scrubbing job. His next orders issued forth in his usual gruff voice.
"Right. Get started putting all the eating dishes and glasses in the top cupboards. I'll get all the cooking pots, bowls and utensils in the lower cupboards."
Both his arms swept over the counters that were full of clean dishes as he spoke. Lore wouldn't have any problem reaching the top cupboards. Otters were nice and tall that way.

The squirrel Isaac walked in clad in his usual green tunic, but was not wearing his sword belt as he liked to do often. "I could here the comotion walking down the hall a little while back, so I put my weapons and came back to see what was going on." He smiled. "By the looks of things, I'm about to be put to work."

OOC: I detect slight controlling of my character, Ronin. But I'll let it pass.
BIC: "I'd be glad to, Ronin." Lore proceeded over to where the glasses and dishes were, and began replacing them into the indicated cupboards. It was nice being tall, sometimes.

Snowflower realized she'd just been standing there as everything was happening around her, and was probably getting in everyone's way. "Ack I'm sorry!" she exclaimed over all the commontion to no one in peticular then headed over to the sink. She ran her paws through the water for a minute then added soap. After she washed her paws she got out one colander to use to help wash her herbs in the sink. She put them in the bowl with holes and ran some water over them. "Yup I'm a healer," she said to Ronin's question, although it might have been long forgotten. She hummmed quietly in her own world as she washed her herbs.

Ronin's concentration was broken as yet another beast entered the kitchen offering to help. Why do they have to be so darned helpful? It wasn't that he minded it, it was just...odd. There was no fort that could have this many cheerful beasts. Then again...they're probably eager to get some real food. The shrew turned to face the squirrel.
"Ye can start with the only place we haven't gotten to yet, the cellar."
He pointed towards the pantry that, by now, was thankfully almost clean.
"There be a door in the floorboards that'll lead you down there. No sampling and bring me back a list of what's down there."
He returned to putting away pots and pans in the cupboards in a way that they would be easy to get out when needed. Large pots in one cupboard, frying pans in another and so forth. He nodded as Snowflower answered his question.
"You get those herbs wild or did ye grow them?"
His mind was already leaping ahead to the next task ahead of him: stocking up on food. That would mean a trip to the market, but spices and herbs were always the most expensive thing. If he could find them wild or if somebeast already had an herb garden inside the fort grounds, that would save a lot of money for the fort.

"Usually I grow them in my garden but sometimes, when i'm on the move, I don't have time to rush home and grab some so i just pick them from the wild," Snowflower answered as the gentle water caressed her herbs as she washed them. "Why?" she asked looking up for a split second.

Ronin shoved the last pot into the cupboard and closed the door.
"Just wonderin'. Ye wouldn't happen to have any garden space for some cooking herbs, would ye?"
The shrew checked the pear compote, whipping out and dipping just the tip of his rapier into it and taking a taste. Yup. You're as good a cook as ever. It was sweet but not too sweet, soft but not mushy and, above all, delicious. Ronin lined some clean bowls up on the counter next to the stove with the pot. He turned his smug face back around towards the kitchen and his voice roared out with an abruptness that only a shrew's voice could.
"Aye. Don't dilly dally all day! Finish up what you're doin'. First ones done get first dibs on the compote."
He watched the pan and the bowls like a hawk. No beast had better dare to break anything.

Snowflower carefully washed each and every herb thouroly as she thought. Some healing herbs in her garden would make execellent cooking herbs as well.
"Of course I have plenty of room," she replied. "If I run out of room I make some."
She looked at Ronin for a split second. "Why?" she asked already able to guess the answer.

Nemus peeked his head out of the pantry door. All food in the buckets were disposed of and the pantry was wiped down spotless. He looked once more at his work to see if he missed anything. Nothing. "I'm good," he said as he walked out of the pantry. Nemus leaned against the table, for he didn't care about first dibs at the moment.

Jovianne inspected the pantry, checking to see that nothing had been overlooked. Satisfied with the clean-up, she skipped cheerfully out of the little room. "Thanks for helping, Nemus!" she chirped, offering a broad smile to the otter. She sat cross-legged on one of the little stools in a corner, not very hungry for pear compote at the moment.

Ronin finally got over staring at the bowls. He'd just institute a new rule. If a dish got broken, the soldier who broke it would pay for it. That would cut costs and guaranteed that they wouldn't be going through dishes as fast as what he heard they used to. He stuck his head into the pantry to see how it had gone. It was much cleaner. He sniffed. No more rotting food either, although the smell still lingered slightly. He'd have to leave the door open. He turned back to the main kitchen, noting Jovianne sitting placidly on a stool. Nobeast seemed much inclined to the compote, but that was kind of understandable seeing as it wasn't very close to any sort of meal time. Well, he still had stuff to do and wasn't about to lounge around.
"Right. Anybeast affiliated with this kitchen crew up on your paws."
He grabbed up a stack of large baskets from a corner. They were quite large and were able to be fastened to one's back with straps that were secured into the weave. He planted them firmly upright on the floor, taking one himself. He strapped it onto his back.
"Get yeself one of these. We be going to the market to shop for an army."
OOC: I'm making a thread in the Market if anyone is interested.

Anny grinned, standing up and taking one of the baskets. Fitting it snugly on her back, she marched over to the door. "Finally, some time to explore a little more!" she thought, having not been able to see all of the fort. She thought the market would be an excellant place to start.

Snowflower placed the last of her finally dry herbs in a little pouch attached to a belt that hung around her waist. "Yes, I'll come too," she smiled, grabbing a basket and fitting it snugly on her back. She stood by Ronin and Anny by the door.
