Ellich was upset. Sure now he had a nice food, and could eat a decent meal, but now he lost his shop. The home Ellich had grown up in and taken care for was gone. So now Ellich wondered out to the river to skip a few stones across the water. There was nothing better to do after all, he never did get back to Linx on that offer to work at his weapons shop, in other words Ellich had no job, which just made things worse for him. After skipping stones for awhile he heard someone approaching.

After a long hiatus from Otter's Fort, Lore Winde the otter had found her way back. Her first order of business was to reacquaint herself with the Fort, which is why she was at the riverside. Once there, she spotted another creature, skimming stones. Out of curiosity, Lore stepped closer. "Hello there."

Briala noisily made her way over to the nearest shore of the river, for once not bothering to be sneaky in the forest. It was a nice day, and she was looking forward to spending time at the river. This was only her second visit, and she was basically staking out some territory; a place where she could visit whenever she wanted and have the best place on the river.
To her disgruntlement, there was already someone by the river. Two someones actually; and one looked rather depressed. Without another thought, Briala bounded forward, grinning like mad. "Hello all! Don't believe we've met. I'm Briala."

Lore took her attention off of the depressed looking creature, and glanced over at the new (loud) arrival. Seeing as how she didn't recognize her, Lore assumed she had come to the Fort while she had been away. Nevertheless, some proprieties had to be recognized, so Lore stuck out one paw to the newcomer. "I'm Lore. It's nice to meet you, Briala."

This was a surprise to Ellich that two others had come. He decided to not show much of his sadness, he didn't need or want the extra attention right now. "Well that was a surprise with two beasts walking up." Ellich turned and stood to face the others.

Lore felt the pinpricks of embarrassment, as she cast about for some form of reply. Aside from her wish to reacquaint herself with the Fort, she had no reason to be by the river at all, and she certainly had no reason to be speaking to this creature, who quite frankly looked like life had hit him over the head with a broom. He might not be so inclined to speak with her, given her sudden appearance, and lack of familiarity. But Lore decided that talking was better than standing there silent. "It's somewhat a nice day, if you like that sort of thing." True, it was a tired expression, but it was something to say.

"Well tis as much of a surprise to see two beasts by the river to walk up to," Briala countered, chuckling quietly. After a brief moment of thought, she decided that, despite there being two others, she would still stay by the river. After all, it was a lovely day...right when she thought that, Lore spoke it out loud. Briala laughed again for no particular reason, then shrugged off her bow and quiver, which she always carried with her. "And what are either of you doing by the river, if I may be so bold as to ask?" she inquired politely, carefully laying the weapons next to her on the ground.

Lore couldn't help but grin at Briala's quip. She followed her lead, and laid her weapons (a pike and a dagger) on the grassy bank where she could keep an eye on them, but without the burden of carrying them. "I've been absent from the Fort for quite some time, and have only recently returned. I thought it best to familiarize myself with it again. And how about you?" Lore eyed Briala as she replied, deciding that she rather liked her, although she knew little about her yet.

Briala was interested in Lore's absense from the Fort. From what she herself had seen of the Fort, it was a wonderful place, and she never wanted to leave if she could help it. Nah, sometime I'll get bored and want to take an adventure, she corrected herself in her head. However, she stored away the "Why?" question in her brain for when she knew the other otter a bit better. Something like that could be personal.
"Me? I was just bored, honestly," Briala chuckled a reply to Lore's question. "I'm pretty new here, so I've been wanting to check out every bit of the fort that I can, and the areas around it. Plus, it's a lovely day, and the river is a nice place to visit on such a day." She swept out one arm, indicating the placid river, the bright sun, and the warm bank.

Lore sensed that Briala wanted to know why she had left, which she wasn't quite ready to speak about yet, particularly to an otter she had just met, although that did not imply a lack of trust. It was just the common
"You picked a perfect day to be exploring. And, you'll get acquainted with the Fort in no time. If you need help with anything, I'm always ready to lend a hand." Lore smiled a friendly smile and extended one paw for her to shake, if she felt so inclined.
