Briala tried to think. What do you do when someone is swallowing blood? Thump them on the back. She twisted around and tapped Dengoro on the back with her rudder tail; not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to dislodge the blood that was stuck there. Stop the bleeding dummy! she screamed to herself. She pressed harder on the jacket, propping up the skunk so his head was tilted downward and whatever was in his mouth could fall out.
"There, the blood's not in your mouth, just hack up what's down there already and you'll be fine," she told him with false cheerfullness. Oh no, this is my fault! If he dies, it's my fault!

Dengoro's mouth was clear of blood at this point. Trying to push himself off the jacket enough to keep it from smothering him, the skunk ended up reducing the pressure on his wound to none, and then it started to bleed freely again. This, in turn, made him feel so faint he passed out again, this time falling right onto the folded textile. Although it stemmed the bleeding somewhat, it directly blocked his nose and mouth, making breathing next to impossible. He might have woken up if it weren't for all that blood out of him.

Briala roughly hauled Dengoro back off the ground, gently pressing the jacket to his face and carefully avoiding his nose and mouth. "Okay Dengoro, listen to me," she said in a firm voice laced with steel. "You need to stay awake. You're strong; I can tell. You'll be okay, but you need to stay awake. Trust me."
Briala looked around and saw something she hadn't noticed before: a first aid shack. It was by the training grounds in case someone got hurt...as they sometimes did. "Hold on a sec," she said, carefully laying the skunks head on the ground. She sprinted over to the shack, dug through a drawer until she found what she needed, and raced back out.
"Okay, this should help." She pressed a damp cloth against his face, which helped with the blood. "When that's done, I have a bandage. Everything's going to be all right." I hope.

Dengoro fought to remain conscious, and it was a losing battle. His feeling of disembodiment, the feeling that this couldn't actually be happening, made it nearly impossible to keep himself from drifting off into the place where everything was peaceful. By the time Briala had returned with the damp cloth, he wasn't at all conscious enough for her reassurances to even register in his brain.

Briala saw Dengoro was unconscious, but it didn't matter anymore. He had lost a lot of blood, but as long as he didn't move, he would be fine. Thank god. She didn't know what she would have done if she had killed him. Probably left, after telling whoever was in charge. But she would have to be more careful with her sparring! She had never actually sparred before; it was either practice by herself or actual fighting.
"Alrighty, just need to prop you up and you'll be fine," she said brightly, ignoring the fact that he couldn't hear. Lifting him up, she put one of his arms around her neck and used her considerable strength to drag him over to the first aid shack, where she propped him up against the wall. Then she busily began to bandage the cut, occasionally shaking him in an attempt to wake him up.

Eventually, Dengoro came to. He was still drowsy to do much in the way of thinking, though. The skunk stared up at Briala with the eye not obscured by the bandage. "Whr..."

*ha. ha. You're new signature is frickin hilarious =P*
Briala breathed a sigh of relief. He was okay! "Don't worry, it's fine," she said briskly, finishing up the bandaging and checking that it was tight enough. "You just need to rest for a bit, then you can start hating me." She tried to sound lighthearted, but her voice choked up a bit. After all, it wasn't every day you almost killed someone.

OOC: I'm sick and tired of people referring to this so called 'art of killing'. What can I say? ...It isn't intended to be funny, though.
BIC: "I'm sorry I... Didn't block that dagger right," Dengoro almost whispered, attempting and failing to get up. All he did was raise a paw slightly. "My bad..." It was customary for him to take the blame. It was what he'd done when his father was alive, and resulted in less punishment than if he tried anything else. Of course, he'd already received his punishment for not blocking Briala's attack.

Briala sighed, flopping back on the ground as her mental exhaustion overwhelmed her. She closed her eyes and rubbed her temples. "I don't know why you're blaming yourself, or apologizing. You said you weren't very good, but I still attacked too fast with sharp daggers. That was stupid, and I could have killed you," she said tiredly. She noticed him trying to get up, and gave him a sharp look. "I'd stay still if I were you. You don't want to restart the bleeding."

Dengoro immediately collapsed, more out of obedience to Briala than actual fear of provoking more bleeding. After a few seconds of panting, he looked up at the otter apprehensively. "But I... I didn't even block it, I should have been able to do that... I'm supposed to be a warrior!" Now he really wanted to quit. There wasn't much awaiting him but more wounds and eventual premature death.

Briala snorted, feeling the need to assure Dengoro that this was definitely not his fault. "I've been using these daggers since I was 7 seasons old. Do you think I got so fast right away? That right away, I was a warrior? It took me forever before I felt like a real warrior. Besides, you weren't ready," she hung her head. "No matter how you feel about this 'not being a warrior' stuff, I shouldn't have attacked you like that. It was probably the stupidest thing I've ever done, and I apologize for that."
Briala sighed again, once again feeling guilt rush over her. He could have died, and it was her fault. To make it worse, he was blaming himself for her stupidity! It might have been funny, if it were something else.

"Who's apologizing for what now?" Dengoro had given up on trying to make sense of the matter. All he wanted to do now was rest, or in other words, give in to his all-consuming fatigue. There wasn't much stopping him from passing out now.

Briala chuckled lightly. Trust him to go to sleep now! I guess near-death experiences are all to exhausting! she thought with her usual, twisted humor. Oh well, guess I can rest too now...
But Briala was far too wound up to sleep. She hopped to her feet and began prowling around, feeling too guilty to start using her daggers again. Her eyes fell on Dengoro's sword. Hmm...Dare I? she wondered, approaching the sleeping skunk. "Well, he already's going to hate me as much as he ever will," she pondered out loud. That was enough for her.
With fiendish glee, she drew the sword from it's sheath, gasping at the sudden weight. How did beasts fight with them? They were so heavy! She attempted to swing the sword over her head, but the weight of it caused her to spin around 360 degrees in a very unwarlike twirl. She strove harder to master the unwieldy object, but it was like trying to wrestle with a tree!

OOC: THought this would be a good time to come in BIC: Fishrudder stepped into the training arena, he wasn't a commander to sit behind a desk and do paperwork all day, he was there to help. THat and it wouldn't hurt to stay in shape. There were only two beasts in the whole training grounds. One of them was Dengoro, a rare skunk, the other was an otter who he recognized as Briala, a new warrior to the fort. She looked good in her evaluation, Dengoro on the other hand, he needed work.
He jogged over when he saw the blood on the ground, he was concerned about what had happened, his eyebrows creased in a question. When he got there he said to Briala "What happened here?"

Briala had given up on the sword, and had carefully placed on the ground next to Dengoro again. She had been considering practicing with her daggers when a new voice rang out over the training grounds. She glanced up and vaguely recognized one of the important people at the fort...not good.
Briala glanced down at the ground, which was soaked in blood, and at Dengoro, who had a bandage across his face. What to do...lying is absolutely out of the question...I guess I'll just explain, and hope I don't get murdered. She cleared her throat. "Um...Dengoro and I were sparring...and I...um...kind of...accidently...hit him," she stuttered, finding it a lot harder to explain than she thought it would be. "He's fine though," she added hurriedly. "I bandaged it, and it didn't hit his eye." She decided to stop talking now, before she got in any more trouble.
