"Well, helping test automatic rifles is pretty fun, too. After a while you get used to the insane kick... OK, it's by far an acquired taste, but pulling a trigger and watching a target explode into splinters is actually pretty invigorating. Great rainy-day activity, you know what I'm saying?"

The CAR again huh? I wonder when Linx'll manage to get that ready for mass production? I can't wait, and I can tell dad wants one to go with his "get in close so I can hit them with my sword" approach... I tell you, if he hadn't met mom, I don't know what he'd be doing with himself...

"Oh, the ammo is coming along nicely, we're just working on a really elaborate cartridge machine. Powered by the current of the river, actually. And you just pour the metal in..."

Like a mill? I've always wanted to visit one of those! Dad never had the time to take me outside of "work", while mom was always working on pet projects with her bow and daggers... did you know she made those daggers of hers herself? Messing around with some molds one day and ended up with those pair she has.

"Cool. Sorta like a mill, yeah, except instead of grinding grain it'll power a really cool machine. It's a money funnel at the moment but it's gonna pay off big time. Bullets everywhere."

Or at least in the direction of the foes eh?
**Amathyst smiled slyly at Archon's words... It was one of those things she could just imagine quite well.**

"Well, it's automated, really, all we have to do is pour in the chunks of aluminum into one tank and the steel in another, and it does the rest for us. Including the melting down, I'm serious, it'll turn it into bullets. Even has a thing for the wire spring inside."

Wow... Just means there'll be a storm of bullets over vermin heads then eh?

"Or, preferably, burying into and destroying them." It was such a cool machine... Linx kept impressing Archon like that. "And you can buy 'em cheap. The quality should actually be better than by paw since they won't have any variation... Just have them all depressurized or fired by spring or they'll go off from the air expanding."

Okay... You kind of lost me there... I may know more about the current technologies than my dad, but I still don't quite get it all.

"Oh, didn't you hear about the air thing? We made a little discovery recently. Air expands when heated and contracts when cooled. It means rounds made in the summer don't work now and ones made in the winter will burst when the temperature rises."

I was there when Linx found that out...but I don't quite understand it.

"Well, I figured it was kinda simple... There's air. A substance. A gas. It can change in how dense or light it is. Which is kinda strange... I dunno what the gas in question is made of, but it can do that..."

I know air is a gas. It IS what we breath after all. But as to the expanding? I don't quite understand how that works.

"I think... Whatever it's made of, when it's heated, it's moving more. You know thermal theory, right? When it's moving more, it takes more space."
