Blackstone is walking along the walls looking over the plains to the south. He liked it up there because the wind was cool and smelled of the sea. Ever since they had won the war against Lord Fireclaw he had trouble finding something useful to do. Blackstone is the kind of otter that is only happy when he’s fighting and killing vermin.
Suddenly he spots a figure running toward the fort. As it came closer Blackstone could see that it was a mouse and was badly injured because of the limp he had in his run. Just then over a hill came five tattooed searats, waving their curved swords and chasing after the poor mouse. Blackstone felt the anger rising in him and he sprung into action. He quickly opened the gate and ran out to help the mouse with a dagger in each paw. The searats were gaining on the struggling mouse and to make things worse the mouse tripped and fell flat on his face. Blackstone threw the dagger and it hit the leading rat in the chest, killing him instantly. The others hesitated, just for a second but that was all Blackstone needed. He threw his other dagger, grabbed the mouse and started running back to the fort.
“Help!" he shouted out at whoever was within hearing. Finnerator, who just noticed the open gate saw them and quickly ran up to the bell tower to sound the alarm incase more rats were coming. Then she took out her longbow and aimed for the frontrunner of the three remaining rats. The arrow cut his shoulder but he kept on running. Blackstone was slowing because of his burden and the rat caught up and swung his sword at them. Narrowly dodging the deadly blow, Blackstone ran on. Finnerator’s next arrow took that rat out. Blackstone made one final sprint through the gate and Finnerator shut it just in time. The two rats banged on the sturdy door and yelled at them from outside.
“Hey yew! That’s our prisoner. You can’t have ‘im!” Finnerator laughed.
“Just what makes you think I’m going to hand him over to an ugly searat like you? I’m in a big strong fort and you’re outside. You’d better get out of here before I decide to shoot you both.”<br>
The second rat spoke this time. “Oh, now ye’ve done it. You’ll regret ever sayin’ that to the crew of Darkpaw. This isn’t the last of us!” While they talked, Finnerator had climbed onto the wall and was aiming down at them.
“Oh, but I think it is.” She killed the speaker and sent the other rat running away as fast as he could. “We’d better do something about this.” She says to an exausted Blackstone and an unconscious mouse.
