Female Sea Otter
Rank: Retired Leader of Fort/General of Army (Retired Site Administrator)
Age: 34 seasons (1 season = 1 year)
Physical Description: Copper fur, blue eyes. Average height and build. Finnerator keeps herself physically fit and always ready for battle by practicing daily in the Training Grounds. Not being one for fine clothes, she is usually seen wearing a tunic and plain black or brown pants and boots.
Personality: Finnerator takes her job seriously, but when she's off-duty she is very relaxed and friendly. The sea otter is pretty outgoing as her position demands, but sometimes she is considered anti-social because she is often found working rather than say spending an evening at the tavern. She is ambitious, which is how she came to build and run Otter's Fort, and she is always trying to make improvements to the fort. Finnerator never gets very angry although she is easily annoyed when people don't do what they're supposed to. The leader of the fort has a strict sense of morality and generally tries to avoid bloodshed unless there is no alternative.
Strengths: One strength that makes her well qualified for the position of a leader is her ability to take control of a situation like leading an attack. Being an otter, she is also a natural swimmer and always likes to live near the water. As far as fighting goes, her greatest strength is with the longbow and archery in general due to her training and consistent practice. After spending a number of seasons in the Sea Patrol and as a captain of her own ship for a time, Finnerator is also an experienced sailor. Other talents and hobbies include cooking, playing the ottercordion and fletching.
Weaknesses: She doesn't like killing, which in some ways is a weakness for a military leader. Close-combat fighting is also a natural weakness for her, though she trains with combat weapons to make up for that. A big weakness is in delegating work. Finnerator is often found working late hours on things that could easily be given to a lower authority to work on. She is not a very good judge of character and is sometimes too trusting of people. Over the years, however, she has learned that people who appear friendly are not always as they seem.
Weapons: Longbow is her primary weapon and she is skilled with it. Her secondary weapon is the dirk, which she carries around with her at all times for safety. She is not as good with close-combat fighting, but with a lot of practice, she has almost become her equal on the dirk as with the bow.
Relatives: Finnerator has two siblings, Blackstone Rudderbow and Whitewillow Rudderbow. Both of them used to live at the fort, but have since left to make their own paths in life. Both her parents died years ago. She has no romantic interests at the moment, probably because of how busy she is with running the fort and her aparent lack of ability to delegate.
History: Finnerator Rudderbow was born on the island of Ruddering where her family had lived for generations. Though she was born on the land, practically her whole dibbunhood was spent at sea because both her parents were merchants and it was not possible for them to leave their children at home for months at a time. Perhaps this was an error in judgment, but for better for or worse, Finnerator and both her younger siblings, Blackstone and Whitewillow, grew up on the high seas. When Finnerator was seven or eight merchant ship was attacked by corsairs. Finnerator, Blackstone and Whitewillow managed to escape in a lifeboat, but their parents were either killed or taken captive in the attack. Eventually, their boat was found by a tribe of otters on the shores of Mossflower and the otters brought them to Redwall.
Finnerator remained at Redwall for about seven seasons. There she was a member of DAB for a brief period of time where the ottermaid caused all sorts of mischief in the peaceful Abbey with the guidance of Tangle Tumblehog and Lauren Flame Eyes. The ottermaid also attended the school at the abbey where she was one of the better students. Despite her interest in learning she had no ambitions to become any kind of scholar and persuaded the Abbey Champion to teach her how to use the bow and the sword. At the age of fifteen seasons, Finnerator realized that her ambitions were unsuited to life at the abbey and she decided to leave and find adventures.
Around this time, a young male otter named Darter Seastreak arrived at Redwall. Darter soon founded the Sea Patrol and Finnerator was one of the first eager recruits. Once again, the otter found herself sailing on the high seas and battling evil vermin. It was then that she realized what she wanted to do with her life. From then on, Finnerator would dedicate her life to fighting vermin so innocent goodbeasts wouldn’t have to. She remained with the Sea Patrol as First Mate for a season or two, but left soon after Darter had.
After leaving the Sea Patrol, she traveled around the Mossflower area, exploring and freelancing with companies of goodbeasts. When the ottermaid was about 19 seasons old, she heard word that Darter Seastreak had created a fort, built for keeping vermin out of Mossflower. This was exactly the kind of place Finnerator had been looking for and she was soon at the gate of the fort and enlisted in the Guardians of Mossflower. The ambitious otter quickly rose up in the ranks and became a Captain in their army. She might have remained at the Guardians of Mossflower for a long time, but once again, Darter left to find another place. Many Guardians left with him and soon a horde of vermin took over the weakened fort and forced the rest of the Guardians to leave.
The sea otter could not abandon her duty to protect all goodbeasts so she found another place where her service was needed. At the age of twenty two, Finnerator returned to her homeland of Ruddering and became Captain of one of their ships. Her ship patrolled the waters for five seasons when she heard news that the vermin horde abandoned the Guardians of Mossflower. Learning this, she returned and took up the position of War Commander. She remained in GoM for a few seasons more, but found it difficult to stay because so many campaigns required her to stay at the inland fort or to patrol the woods. The otter hated being so far from the sea and after a successor was named to continue to lead the Guardians against vermin, she left for the sea.
She was about thirty seasons old when she left the Guardians and decided to build her own fort that could better patrol the seas around Mossflower. With the help of her family and friends, the sea otter built a military fort that acted similarly to the Guardians of Mossflower in protecting goodbeasts, but was located by the vast Western Sea rather than in a land locked forest. Finnerator named it Otter's Fort.
Otter's Fort has grown immensely over the few seasons since she founded the place. It started out as a modest building with few amenities, became a stone-walled fort, grew further to become a popular place to trade goods safely, and finally came to what it is today. A trade town with a permanent army stationed there to protect surrounding woodlands and coast.
After spending four seasons at Otter's Fort and governing and commanding the growing town and fortress as best as she was able, Finnerator decided that it was time to step down from her role as Leader of the Fort and General of the Army. She too had heard that proverb, "absolute power corrupts absolutely" and she did not want that to happen to Otter's Fort. Thus, she appointed Fishrudder as her successor and left the fort to find new adventures and challenges.
Finnerator has accomplished more than she ever dreamed possible, but is always looking to the future to see what she can do to make the world a better place.
Thus closes Finnerator's biography. After over five years on the ROC, Finnerator and I had some great times. A special thanks to all those ROCers I RPed with. Now here's to the new generation of the Redwall Online Community: Best of luck to you all and keep the spirit of Redwall alive!
