OOC: Last post for the night.
BIC: "The kind that will direct you to a target, pay you your fee and be done with it," Archon continued in the flat tone from before. He didn't particularly like assassins in general, although he had to make the odd exception; this one didn't look like one of the examples with extenuating circumstances, though. Rather, Sleet was a typical murderer for hire. His posture still remained stationary. "Things are a bit more personal than that at the fort. High-stakes kills, never actual residents of the fort, you can get paid as much as a thousand coins for slitting the right throat. That's what big trade brings, it seems."

OOC: good timing for me too ^^
"Ah, economy." She sighed dreamily. Sleet looked at him and grinned momentarily, "I know High-stakes, I like High-stakes..." She paused, reminding herself that going to far north could be hazardous, but in fact she was somewhat fond of this little mouse and his odd attempt at recruiting her to his fort. She liked the money aspect of it too, and it was true that sense the bounty on her had faded she hadn't had any big jobs.
Carefully she weighed her options. She could tell by his tone he was not particularly fond of the information he was giving her, but that didn't concern her in the slightest. Sleet didn't make friends easily, she had few loyalties in her life she would not break at some point, she looked out for herself and not much else. However, she was a ferret. Naturally curious and with a tendency to seek out trouble... the money aspect didn't hurt either. "Well, mousy, Maybe you can show me your little fort." She flashed a fanged grin at him, her black eyes bright.

OOC: Archon is not little!
BIC: "It's not mine," Archon replied impatiently as he started walking in the direction of the road. It'd be easy enough to take it up to the fort. "And it's up to you if you really want to follow. You won't be able to just stare at it for a few minutes, get bored and leave... Well, technically, you can, but if anyone figures out the kind of beast you are, you're stuck with it." And that wasn't his problem. All he did was defend the fort, not collaborate with random assassins.

"What kind of beast do you think I am exactly, mousy?" She growled as she moved. She took long strides across the small clearing to yank her knife out from the tree trunk. It was sunk deep into the wood, but she twisted it outwards, as she thought quietly about Archon and the fort he had told her about. She twirled the knife, out of habit and walked after him, grinning as she played with the blade. "And how exactly would that effect me being stuck there? I'm not the type of creature to get tied down." She noted for him.

"Well, either tied down financially, as in an offer you can't refuse, or tied down simply metaphorically... As in an offer you can't survive." Sleet's incessant growling was grating on Archon's nerves in an undeniably ominous manner. His own intonation was becoming increasingly forced, and her playing with that knife of hers wasn't helping at all. Why haven't I just shot her? "The assassin trade there is pretty high-stake. If you choose to join, you'll not only get an increasingly large bounty on your head, but also a very quickly moving mace if you screw up your latest task."

She studied him, tilted her head to the side a bit. Her left ear, the whole one, twitched slightly. After a moment of looking at him She pulled her cloak back and tucked the knife away. Sleet gave him a slightly quizzical look as if to say Happy now?. She shrugged, "I've had bounties. They aren't particularly dangerous... usually" She shrugged, her arms a her side, one claw impatiently tapping at the glass bottle on her waist. She was slightly uncomfortable without one of her knives to toy with, but she let it go, although a proud and stubborn creature, she knew very well when to step to the side. "You don't think I'll survive it, mousy?"

"You've never been to Otter's Fort... Ferrety." Apparently, Sleet had a few things to learn. An absence of arrogance was included in that particular package. As much as he wanted to feel more or less apathetic about her condition and fate, something in him was telling him to advise her to stay alive, and, preferably, come with him. The reason for this was one he couldn't immediately identify. "Bounties last four, five days, tops, to be claimed. Typically they're claimed less than a day after they're posted, in fact. It doesn't matter if one attempt fails because then another does."

She smiled her fanged smile at him. "I'll take that as a no." She continued tapping the bottle at her side. She chuckled to herself and shook off her black cloak. Beneath it she wore a slightly over-sized off-white shirt and tough canvas-like trousers. Her half-a-tail twitched at the tip in slight irritation at the weather. Crossed over her chest were straps that held up her two twin short swords that crossed over her back. She reached up, over her shoulder and pulled one blade out of its sheath a bit and then dropped it back in. "Well, would you like to bet on how long I'll last? i warn you, I am surprisingly good a sticking around."

"No, mainly because I don't gamble, but also because I'm not stupid. ...Contrary to popular belief." The mouse, at this point, just wanted to get back to the fort, and if he had to keep Sleet talking while he did so, he had no objection. It meant more than he wanted to admit whether she followed him or not, though. "But that's a really nice sword there. Even though I don't actually like two-weapon fighting all that much... What is it with beasts from up north and twin swords? Are they somehow more effective in constant cold?" More importantly, Archon wanted to ask if they were as effective as they looked. However, it wouldn't have provoked the kind of response he was actually looking for.

She shrugged. "I don't know many beasts from the north, and I didn't find these there. I found them in the south, rather." She reached back and pulled one fully out, to show him the slight curve in the blade. "They work for me, they aren't too long so they don't drag down my speed or movement. Long swords, axes, heavy things like that aren't worth anything to me." She paused, admired her weapon and then put it back, she smiled jokingly at Archon "Besides, I think the twin-bit of it is cute."

"No, a bunch of beasts I know from the north have twin swords... I'm carrying one right now, but it's just a sidearm. It's also capable of trapping and sundering your average longsword, which is handy... But this is my main weapon, look at this." Archon raised his bolt repeater and gestured with it to Sleet. He clicked the safety on when he realized it wasn't already. "It's loosely based on a crossbow. Except it's repeating, you don't have to manually load each bolt, it's a lot more accurate, it serves as a melee weapon with the bayonet and stock, it's a lot more accurate, durable... Long list of improvements."

She loved her short swords, they would have been immensely expensive... had she bought them. They had lasted her longer then any other weapon she'd owned before. She looked quizically at Archons weapon, and remembered his threat earlier. "It doesn't look like it would do much." She said, looking at the blade that hardly took up a fraction of the weapon. "How far will... well whatever you shoot out of it, go?"

"This blade on the end, mind you, is pretty much a combination spear and extended dagger, it can kill you no problem. As for firing?" Archon shouldered the repeater, clicked the safety off and pulled the trigger. A dull thud was audible from the weapon, and a bolt hurtled out into the distance at just over 300 feet per second. This made it clearly visible, but its power was obvious when it punched into the side of an oak some 70 yards away and burst out the other side in a shower of splinters. The mouse promptly cocked the repeater, chambering another bolt. "And I can do it again right now."

"Effective." She nodded, "Smart little weapon too. I'm not big on range, outside an assignment though. If dead is dead a knife will do, but I think it's funner to have some challenge in it." She flipped her half-tail and reached up a paw to rub her torn ear. "Some challenge is good, I've always gotten out alive, but getting shot at I swear... nothing more obnoxious then walking around and having something sharp and dangerous land right next to your head, no questions asked."
She shuffled her feet along, one paw now toying with a knife handle, she was careful with her weapons, sometimes prone to acting as they needed to be treated in such away, but also very aware of how others would interpret them. Two of her knives, ones she rarely touched, were tucked out of sight and for good reason, she loved him, but few others would... she shook the thoughts from her head and looked back at Archon, "Do you fight always, with that?"

"Typically, yes, sometimes I take a heavier weapon... This thing works great for killing about ten vermin without a need to reload," Archon explained happily. When it came to the discussion of hi-tech armaments, he was almost as happy to explain things as Linx. "But if you think that's the most obnoxious, you haven't seen me in action. First off, I seldom go for the head, unless the target has a really strong breastplate and I don't have anything but this weapon... Otherwise, it's the center mass. And I don't hit next to the beast. I hit the beast."
He wasn't trying to be arrogant, although it probably didn't sound that way. Sleet was more of an assassin than a warrior, obviously, so it made sense that she'd have a different weapon of choice from himself. What he really excelled at was walking out into the midst of the battlefield with a weapon in his paws and mowing the enemy ranks down like grass before the blade of a scythe. The new CAR2 was probably going to help there. "The best part about this is how cheap the ammunition is. Far cheaper than typical crossbow bolts, I can get about 120 of these for one coin." Of course, since his yearly salary was 624 coins, that wasn't saying a lot.
