"Might be," Archon repeated. His own occupation also involved a high mortality rate, if softened by the presence of overwhelming technology. His love interests didn't lie in weaponry, but they were certainly widespread. And he was going to be an actual father soon enough. I'll be a fighting parent. What a life I lead! As a result of this mix of similarities and differences, he was simply unsure how to react. His own present life involved even more romantic conquest than the mouse he was emulating, and Sleet was... A potential target.
He didn't think about it as a bad thing. What actually mattered to him was that whoever he was with could get helped out. "I don't think it's that ambiguous. Sooner than you think, someone from the fort will take a liking to you. It may have happened already."

She ignored completely what he had said, although she understood it completely. Sleet did not buy into any sort of advances, she was much pickier then that. "I had a corsair, once. A captain, the funniest drunk I've ever seen. And another corsair too once... I never liked water. The leader of a horde... eventually he became a mercenary I think." She smirked, she was messing with him, it was all purposeful. "How many ferrets you think hang around this fort?"

Archon had obviously caught on, but he didn't care. He still had the power to not feel anything about being messed with. "I don't know and I don't care. How many monitor lizards are there? One lives in my house. How many skunks are there? One lives in my house! If you think anyone over there even thinks twice about anything because of species, you will never survive." Mainly because he'd shoot her right then.

"Woah, woah there mousy. Calm down, I was just wondering" She raised her paws up as if to mock a surrender. "You've got some interesting roommates there, thought. Must be a bit crowded." She lat her paws rest at her sides, one continuing to flip about the knife casually.

"No, the house is huge, you have to see the rooms for yourself to believe what I could say about 'em. But, really, nobody cares about species. At all." He neglected to mention how closely they were all involved at the moment. That was something that wouldn't have helped his case much. The mouse continued walking leisurely. He had the power to do whatever he wanted with Sleet right then and there was no denying it. Except maybe get her to say yes.

She nodded, " I hear ya, mousy. I get the point, it a nice thing to hear honestly. Except I find myself wondering if you would have pulled that.. repeater you call it, if I had been a nice little girl mouse, rather then a ferret. And you say you patrol, how many times have you slaughtered a camp of vermin without so much of a question? Would it be the same if they were squirrels, otters? A traveling family of hedgehogs or hares?" As she spoke her voice became more and more disdainful.

"How many times have I done that? Only once, due to miscommunication higher up. Every other time, it's been after confirmed scout reports of actual violent incursions on the vermin's part. Don't get me wrong, things happen that I regret, but it's not just 'vermin' that we fight and I don't care about species out here, either. Really, the ferret part didn't provoke the repeater. The knife did!" Archon flashed the ferret an indignant glare. She was trying to make him sound hypocritical, claiming to not care about species but apparently caring about species. It was doing nothing but irritating him.

"Because a knife makes me dangerous and deadly and automatically means I'm there to harm you." She growled. Sleet was not specifically bothered of insulted, in fact being labeled as scary evil ferret quite regularly was just fine for her. But she was bitter, her entire life ever sense the death of her family had been nothing but revenge and survival, and she knew the reason in her mind and no one would change it. "Plenty of beasts carry knives" She mumbled indignantly, mostly to herself under her breath.

"Not many stand there and play with the things. I'd be worried if it were anyone doing that. And to be honest, I'm a patrol guy, I brandish a repeater a lot... If I really thought you were a threat, I would have forced you onto your knees, bound your wrists, stripped you of weaponry and brought you in for imprisonment. Can you move your paws freely at this moment, right now?" The answer didn't require speaking. Archon felt that his point hadn't been quite made yet. This is what you get for trying to be friendly...

She looked at him lividly, her black eyes seemed even darker. Sleet was painfully proud, the idea that he even thought he could do that (while it was probably completely true and possible) made her feel like she ought to flick her wrist just slightly and send her knife flying at his face. She was silent, just looking at him. her judgment, her intellect and her logic kept her from doing anything stupid, but Sleet was an impulsive creature. She continued to look at him, distasteful and silent. Finally she said, her voice dripping with disdain and sarcasm, "Thanks."

"Oh, and don't try the knife throw thing, I practice daily, I'd just block it with the stock of my repeater and put a bolt in your neck, and am I sorry. You don't have the power in this equation, if you haven't noticed already. I do. If you can't get used to not being the toughest beast in the room, or, in this case the forest, you'll be getting killed." Archon didn't find himself being too arrogant; he was the one with the repeater. All he had to do now was actually assert that power and he was in place. And all Sleet had to do was figuratively sit down and shut up.

OOC: Sorry, last night my connection died "I thought we were past the 'ooh your our to kill me, don't even try!!' stage." She snapped. She didn't particular mind stepping aside, and she knew the situations where it was necessary, but the ay he spoke to her made her livid. Automatically her grip did tighten on her knife when he mentioned it, she held it stiffly at her side through, having never meant it to be a threat in the first place. Her nerves were, however, running thin.

"I thought we were past being sour about not having a superior position here," Archon shot back. The whole thing was just irking him. After a few seconds' pause, he decided to drop the matter entirely, since it had no resolution. "Look. When you get to the fort, you... You have money? How much money do you have?"

Sleet glared at him for a moment unsure weather or not she ought to let it go so easily. It didn't take long for her to realize the best thing to do would be to follow his lead, at least for now. "I do... Maybe about... a little over fifty coin." she said, her voice less angry, but still with a slight prickle to it.

"OK, that'll get you board for the night, no problem. But you're gonna have to buy a house sooner or later. Preferably sooner, because rates at the inns aren't fun." Four coins a night was a lot more expensive than it sounded. Archon, luckily enough, didn't have to deal with that at all. "I mean, the minimum is four nightly. And you will be wanting a permanent place..."
