A scowl passed over sleets face, one of the things she held a high distaste for was slaughter, specifically slaughter of her own species, many of which she knew would be incorporated into the 'vermin' Archon was talking about. However, she had grown use to the talk, having heard it for most of her life, she knew there wasn't anythign she could do much to stop it. it wasn't her job to defend anyone, and so she let it go. Although she regarded his weapon as even cheaper then the sometimes deadly poison knives she used, she was genuinely interested. The look faded off her face, and was replace with a smirk, "Theres more then just that one?"

"Oh, come on, every soldier at the fort has one of these! They actually haven't been used in any large-scale battles yet, probably because we've scared everyone away, but it does mean that just two or three of our beasts can destroy an entire vermin emplacement. That's not something we've had to do very often, but that's a good thing. The whole point of all these technologies is to make it such a ridiculous idea to oppose the fort that all opposition either surrenders or runs away to never return." The best part was that it worked.
Archon sighed as he moved along the path. His technological advantage put him above all other soldiers in the region, outside the fort, of course, but he had never had to truly earn it. Of course, this meant nothing to him. It was simply an asset, and the least he could do was ensure a speedy and merciful demise for his foes with some well-placed bolts. "And there's a crank-operated model that can punch through a steel breastplate and come out the other side, we have a few dozen of those... And there's... You could just see for yourself sometime."

"I'll look forward to it." She nodded, smirking a big and looked down at the path. This mouse that had coincidentally run into her was a bit hardened, and yet the way he babbled at times took away any unease she may had regarding him. "How far is this fort?"

"It's on the south bank of the River Moss. Considering how close we are already, it can't be more than twenty minutes until we get there." Archon's talkative nature arose from a direct desire to dispel any tension that may have still lingered in the air between them. He was still feeling the need to hold onto his repeater, which was a good idea for patrolling in the first place, but the fact of the matter was that it calmed his nerves noticeably to just talk. It ended up making him sound a bit eccentric, though. "And as soon as I get to my house I am going to fall asleep for ten years."

"What an energetic, little creature you are." She said sarcastically. Sleet continued towing with the handle of one of her knives, she looked at him, and thought to herself that she didn't know many mice outside of redwall or little villages. "Where'd you come from? Have you always lived there?" She asked.

"No. And I'm not little." Archon, well-built and muscular as he was, had a hard time not taking offense. He gave Sleet a disparaging glance before continuing with a sigh. "I lived in a little isolated house on a trade route, it burned down to the ground and killed my parents so I came to the fort. Isn't that interesting?" We are NOT passing the time well. I'd rather be ravished than do this. He actually would. Things were getting boring.

"Oh it sounds great yeah." She retorted to his sarcasm with her own. Uninterested much in the mouse she ran a paw along her belt, checking that all her weapons were in place, including the little throwing needles and the two hidden knives, then she flipped one out of its sheath and toyed with it absentmindedly, not minding if it bothered the mouse, he had his little bolt thing, she could have her knife.

Archon eventually decided to detach his bayonet and thrust it into an empty sheath on his belt. He'd been waving his bolt repeater about so much that he was surprised he hadn't bisected Sleet by accident with it already, and figured that it would be a better idea to just put the thing away. Noting apathetically, that she was back to playing with one of her knives, the mouse couldn't help but sigh. "I don't know why you'd go for a thrown weapon when you could launch a projectile from something with twice the range and a lot more ease. Not that I care, I like a beast who knows their way around a blade." Way to provoke the innuendo machine!

She shot a humoring glare at him, "They are quieter then that thing you've got, less easy to trace, I mean honestly how many assassin ferrets do you think have one of those? I go though these," she tossed the small, undecorated knife in the air, "pretty quick, but its not as if they are difficult to find, anything important to me i'll just use when i know i can get it back." yes, she got slightly attached to some of her weapons, she could never see getting very attached to that bulky loud thing Archon carried with him.

"If you think this is loud... It isn't that loud. Besides, if you really wanted to do something quiet, you'd use a repeater rifle, not one of these. Those are totally quiet. ...Moreover, the noise is perfectly good on a battlefield where I usually am." The fact that one of them was an assassin and the other a warrior made a common weapon impossible, anyway. Archon decided to change the subject to... Something else. "You have a family?"

She looked at him, a little thankful for the change of subject, but not exactly for the way it changed. "No." She said, the was wondering weather she ought to leave it at that or tell him any more. "A younger brother actually.. he must be... around 16." The only living relative she knew of, she'd looked after him for a few years. Although the two hadn't met up in about a season she wasn't worried for him.

"Around 16. How interesting," Archon replied dully. He eventually decided that it would be worth asking the question he was planning on asking for some time, just to see what happened. The consequences thereof didn't really bother him, since it was such a harmless-sounding question to even ask. "Are you taken?"

She looked at him with such humor in her face that it looked like she was biting her tongue painfully just to keep from laughing. Simply because the question seemed so unnecessary. "Yeah actually, I've got this guy, he follows me as i run around across mountains, through forests, into the deserts just to kill some beast and doesn't even ask questions. He's actually just behind us now, trailing me like a shadow, because I totally am in a career that allows that."

"The direction you're going right now... Actually, it will," Archon corrected her blithely. She hadn't apparently gotten the gist of the fort's nature yet. "You'll be sticking around, so that shadow can materialize pretty soon and it won't even need to ask questions because it'll have all the answers already."

She looked at him suspiciously. She was an assassin, almost guaranteed a early death in her line of work. Her knives were her love interest, her short swords her children. She looked down, he had evoked thoughts she would have rather not looked into. She'd taken care of Kutenai, her brother, for around 5 seasons, she'd been so fiercely protective she had mindlessly slaughtered a patrol of hares when they harmed him. He had been her responsibility, him and his dead twin, the day her family and the rest of village burned. Her siblings, there had been six in all counting her, three older then she, then her and the twins, Just babes at the time... No 'settling down' as it were was not on her list of things to do. Perhaps she was petrified of the idea that the whole thing could always happen again, or perhaps she knew that, as a ferret she would never be safe from the ides of 'shot-stab-then ask questions' and that her brother, a mercenary, wasn't either.
She realized she had sunk into silence for quite some time, a forlorn and in some ways vicious look on her face as the thoughts plagued her mind. She looked sharply at Archon. "Might be. Might be sticking around."
