The skunk grinned openly at this idea. "Well, I believe you... I mean, just look at what it's connected to. Well, you can't, really... I can." He restrained the impulse to reach out and give Lars' tail a stroke. It wasn't easy to do so and he ended up just motioning a similar gesture an inch or so away with his paw. Then just wasn't the time for doing something like that. "I dunno how any vermin could imagine hurting such a... Perfect body."

"I don't think they see it in the same way as you do I'm afraid..."
Feeling the disturbances in the air around his tail, the mouse smiled to himself.
"Trying not to touch huh? It's not like I'd stop you if you did..."

"Well, you know, the broken shoulder is a turn-off of some sort... So the question is, am I going to associate tail stuff with you being injured, or am I going to associate you being injured with tail stuff?" Those were actually two very different things, and Dengoro smiled at the idea. Having been implicitly permitted by Lars, he extended his paw in earnest and gently ran it down the first eight inches or so of the mouse's tail; since it hadn't a bit of fur on it at all, his fingers could directly caress the sensitive surface.

"Or how about my foolish bravery? I mean, I was the one who lept in front of that flail..."
Feeling Dengoro's fingers caressing his tail, Lars was enjoying the feeling he was getting... Which was also keeping his mind off his shoulder injury.

"Well, it's better than me getting it in the face, isn't it?" Dengoro laughed while moving his paw back up Lars' tail, moving up to brush against the mouse from the side slightly. Noting the proximity of the fort, he decided not to actually escalate what he was doing in order to get Lars to the sickbay a bit faster. "Your species is lucky..."

"Yeah... Better I get a broken shoulder, than you get a broken head..."
Noticing they were mere moments from the gates, Lars sighed a little.
"Luck has nothing to do with it... Family trait I guess."

"You guys get broken bones a lot, don't you?" Dengoro relinquished his grip on Lars as he came within visual distance of the gate guards. The gates were already open so it wasn't like he had to do any signaling, but he decided to call out anyway. Upon doing so, he saw an immediate reaction from the guards. "Hey, one of you get a medic, we have a wounded patrol member!"

"Only me and dad do... Mom and sis haven't yet... that I know to..."
When Degoro took his paw away, Lars sighed to himself... He liked the feeling, and at that moment, it was gone... Which wasn't good in his opinion.

"Well, I don't want to make a bad impression on the guards," Dengoro murmured. "Just because stimulating you might distract you a bit..." He didn't want to be that overt around his co-workers. Besides, it looked like one of the guards was running off ahead of them to forewarn the sickbay of their arrival. Am I gonna be seeing Zahi there?

"True..."
Also watching one of the guards, he mouse again sighed to himself.
Mom'd have a fit if she's in today...

Dengoro proceeded through the village quickly and carefully. There wasn't much of a crowd but he still found himself wary to the point of heading over to the very edge of the road. He didn't want anything to happen to Lars, not after they'd already made it so far. "Lars, I really hope Zahi isn't in. Which is another way of saying she probably will be. She'll probably want to know about how you got this... And why I didn't prevent it, and what we were doing in the first place."

"You're telling me... She'd probably have a serouis fit over it... I don't think you were around here then, but after my sis had her first meeting with Archon, and ended up having to go into the sick bay over it... Well... She wasn't very happy then... So I doubt she'd be too impressed now..."
"Who wouldn't be too impressed about what?"
The guard who had gone to the sick bay to get a medic had picked both the best and worst for the situation... And Zahi was on her way down the road in the direction of the gate to see to Dengoro and Lars.

"Oh, nothing, Lars just kinda saved my life and took a flail in his shoulder, you have any forceps on you?" The way Dengoro worded it, as well as his tone, was the kind of way that could defuse just about anything. Experience with a drunken father had taught him how to make everything a lot softer via words, and although he didn't think much of what would happen if Zahi got angry somehow, it was worth a shot.

"Wait... Back up a moment... A flail? What were you two doing?"
"Being out on patrol, then getting attacked by vermin, one of whom had a rather large and heavy spiked flail."
"That explains it... And no, I don't have any forceps with me."
Which was the truth, usualy when things were logwd in a beast's body, it was usually an arrow or a crossbow bolt, and thus relatively easy to pull out.

"Find some," Dengoro answered flatly. "Not like I can order you, but I doubt you want your kid to bleed to death. Or contract an infection from the splintered metal that's lodged in his flesh." He didn't even slow down upon seeing Zahi, though. The skunk continued steadily and briskly towards the sickbay even as he spoke. There was no way he'd delay it and hopefully Zahi would be smart enough to let him move without restraint.
