Briala opened one eye as the early morning sun hit her face, waking her from a peaceful sleep. Truthfully, her first peaceful sleep in a long time. Why was that? Oh yes, she had found the fort! An Otter's Fort, to be precise. It seemed perfect for her. She had been accept straight away and, after being tested for her capabilities, whisked to the Warrior barracks. How simply lovely.
Briala hopped out of bed without further ado, eager to get started on her day right away. "What to do, what to do..." she said out loud, pulling on her clothes and strapping her bow and quiver to her her back. She never went anywhere without her bow and arrows, or the two curved daggers she now slid into their sheaths on her belt. It might be okay here, but she felt comforted by having the weapons close to her.
A loud rumble filled the air, and Briala glanced at her stomach in amusement. "Breakfast it is! To the mess hall then!" She strode out of the barracks and followed her nose to the mess hall, eagerly grabbing a plate and piling the nearest bits of food on it without really looking at what she got. She sat down at a random table, seeing as she didn't really know anyone to sit with.
"Hello there!" she cheerfully greeted those around her. "It's it a beautiful morning?" Nobody else seemed quite as happy as her about the morning, so she shrugged and dug into her meal.

*Dantin had been out all night. Since becoming a captain, he had had to take on more responsabilities. This included leading the occasional night patrol. Many of the beasts at the table right now had been on the patrol as well and were thus tired and unconversational.
It was very dull, to say that least; that is untill a young, almost his own age, otter sat down directly across from him and greeted the company cheerfully, they in turn just sat there eating. Not seeming to be put off in the least, she started eating. -Must be new.- Dantin thought because he had never seen her before.*
"Somebeast is certainly cheerful this morning." *He said with a small smile and then gestured at the others sitting at the table.* "Sorry 'bout this lot, we just got back from a night patrol. I'm Dantin."

Briala paused in her eating to examine the mouse next to her. He seemed to be about her age, but since she was terrible at guessing things like that, it didn't really tell her much. However, he seemed a lot less cranky than most of the others around her, which was a definite bonus.
"Of course I'm cheerful," she replied, warming up for a good conversation. "It is a wonderful day, and I have arrived at the lovely Otter's Fort, where I can eat a delicious, real breakfast." She paused, wondering if she had used enough nice adjectives. Normally she wasn't quite this cheerful, but it was nice to be amongst others, and to be firmly rooted in one place.
"Night patrol, hmm? I would volunteer for that, but I'm awful if I don't get my beauty sleep," she beamed a grin, before returning to her delicious breakfast. Hmm, I'm forgetting something...Name! "Oh, I'm Briala, by the way," she finally added.

Cressida had been sitting at the table next to the new comer when she had heard her ecstatic greetings. "Hello there Briala. You must be new here, me name's Cressida by the way, pleasure to meet you." Cressida had said with a smile while she sat down across the table from Briala.

**Maleava, her curiosity piqued, walks over to the others. Smiling shyly, the mouse extends a paw.** Hi there, nice meeting you all.

Briala turned her head from side to side, looking around as several others came to greet them. Well, at least these guys are friendly. Nice place here. "Yes, I am new," she answered the one who said her name was Cressida. A mouse came over, and Briala warmly shook her extended paw with her own delicate one. "Nice to meet you all too. I'm Briala," she said again, mostly for the benefit of the latest mouse. Briala had only been here for less than 24 hours, and she already loved it.

"Nice day isn't it?" Cressida said to Briala with a smile. "I hope you like it here, I've sure gotten used to it." She said with the smile never leaving her face. Even when Cressida was little she almost always had a smile remaining on her face, only when terrible things happened, or when she was in an intense life-or-death situation had the smile been removed.

Briala nodded her head eagerly, her pretty face almost broken in half by her wide grin. "Oh yes, it seems lovely!" she exclaimed enthusiastically. "Everyone and everything is so nice here. It's..." she paused, trying to think of a word to describe how wonderfully fabulously great everything was. She only shrugged slightly when she failed, the grin never leaving her face. "I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. And hopefully, they'll get used to me too," she giggled, indicating all the others at the table, who definitely were not as peppy or cheerful as she was. They seemed to have finally accepted that she wasn't going to shut up or leave, and they returned to their slow consumption of their breafasts.

*Dantin himself was looking at the creatures sitting at the table, noticing how unresponsive they were; excpet for the ones that had said something, that is.* "Well, hopefully they'll start cheering up themselves instead of getting used to you. It seems to me the world would be a better place if everybeast were as cheerfull as you." *So he said and so he thought. Her cheerfullnes was like a breath of fresh air. Much needed in the mess hall at the moment.*

Briala glanced around at the others again, still giggling slightly. "Well that's nice of you to say, but from what I've experienced, not-morning people tend to stay that way: dull and uncheerful," she replied to Dantin, reaching across the table for an apple. Her arm bumped against another otter's, but he only glared at her blearily for a second before lethargically returning to his food. "See? Completely dead," Briala stated, with the air of having proved a very difficult point.

"Yeah they all are this way in the mornings, but later in the afternoon most get a lot more cheerful." Cressida said with a smile. "Would you like to go to the training grounds with me later? I could show you a few tricks."

"Sure, training sounds good," Briala replied cheerfully, picking up a small knife and, with precise, delicate movements, began to cut her apple apart. "I use a bow and daggers. You?" Briala didn't say out loud, but thought that she hadn't seen many bows. It made her sad; the bow was her favorite weapon.

"I prefer swords, but I still own a longbow. How long have you been practicing archery?" Cressida asked.

Briala tilted her head to the side, trying to think about exactly how long she had been using her bow. "9 seasons, if my brain is correct," she finally said with a hint of pride in her voice. "But it feels like forever." She was proud of her archery skills, even if no one else was. "But I've always wanted to learn how to use a sword," she said wistfully, beginning to eat her apple. She had never even held a sword, let alone learned how to use it.

"You must be extremely good at the bow, then." Cressida said with a smile, "Maybe I can teach you how to handle a sword, if that is OK with you." Cressida said the smile remaining on her face.
