Briala scoffed at Dengoro's pessimism. "Must you be so negative? It's a lovely day, there's lots of time, and your whining about shoes!" Briala still didn't know why she stayed with Dengoro. Most likely she still felt bad, and wanted to at least attempt to cheer him up. So far she was unsuccessful, but her tenacity wouldn't let her give up. "How about we look at other stores than?" she suggested, quickly paying for the stuff she had picked out and stepping away from the store to scan the other shops.

Dengoro exasperatedly dropped what he had in his paws and followed Briala out the door. It looked like they'd be searching the market in vain for a shoe store again. The skunk was so perturbed by Briala's persistence that he felt like just getting lost and separating from her in the crowd right then, but fear of her hurting him again prevented this course of action.

Briala began to hum and zig-zag again, determined to still enjoy herself despite Dengoro's frustration and annoying-ness. Boldly, she walked up to a random otter, asking brightly, "Hello! Do you know where I could get some shoes?" The otter gave her an odd look, as if she had asked how to find a way to the moon. "I think there might be a shop, down at the very end," he finally said gruffly, pointing down the marketplace. Briala bobbed her head in thanks, then skipped back over to Dengoro, pulling him along behind her. "This a-way, then!" she declared happily.

Perhaps Briala was just... Extremely mentally unstable. Dengoro followed reluctantly, mainly because he'd be pulled over onto his face if he didn't move his footpaws. Maybe she'd prefer to put a leash around my neck. The skunk noticed that they weren't even stopping to check out the stores around them anymore. Apparently she'd found one.

Briala purposefully strode towards the very end of the market, where there were smaller stores, and less of them. However, there was a shoe store! Well, she assumed it was a shoe store, since there were shoes posted in the windows. "Yes!" she shouted triumphantly, glad she could help. She released Dengoro's arm and skipped over to the store, calling over her shoulder, "See? My craziness paid off!"

Dengoro sighed in relief and headed over to the store. It looked like all the footwear he'd need in his entire life, so he eagerly stepped in to inspect the wares. "Briala, this is great. How did you find this place? You just... Magic?"

Briala beamed a grin; at last, she had done something right! And, at least for now, Dengoro didn't seem angry, annoyed, or afraid of her, which was good. Plus, she had found shoes! That could always be useful, if she ever needed shoes. "Yes, I have magic skills," she laughed, skipping through one row of shoes after the other, glancing around as she did so. "Well, this is interesting," she commented, pausing to look at shoes that were about a foot high and painted bright pink. "I found the shoes you told me to get!" she giggled, waving one in Dengoro's general direction.

Dengoro responded with a scathing glare as he looked through shoes for everyday use. He eventually located a pair of part-cloth, part-metal, part... Leather-something jet-black shoes that looked like he could shoot one with a repeater rifle and it wouldn't leave a dent. "These are nice," he murmured to himself absently.

Ah, the respect could not last, Briala thought with a chuckle as Dengoro threw her a scornful glance. "Well so much for my help," she muttered as Dengoro found some shoes he seemed to like. She carelessly tossed the pink shoe back on the shelf before heading back over to Dengoro. "So those ones work?" she asked politely, though it seemed obvious they were the ones he was going to get.

Now Briala was throwing the shoe. Perhaps she could pick it up and do it again... Through the window. As if she could attract more attention to herself somehow. "No," Dengoro sarcastically answered holding the shoe in one paw and putting the other on his hip. "This is the most revolting pair of shoes I've seen in my life and it must burn. ...I think I'll buy it."

Briala stuck her tongue out at Dengoro. "The sarcasm was unnecessary, dear," she said in a fake-posh voice that didn't match her immaturity. "No need to insult the lovely shoes." Briala giggled again, before returning to her humming and skipping. You're gonna get kicked out if you don't calm down, she reminded herself, and forced her feet to slow down to a stop. She took a deep breath and released it slowly, trying to calm down. She didn't know why she was so hyper now, but it was getting rather annoying.

Dengoro glanced sideways at Briala speechlessly, a bit too stunned by her hyperactivity to comment on it. He headed over to the counter and dumbly set down the pair of shoes on it, ignoring the snide look he was flashed by the hedgehog behind it. Briala's actions were becoming too embarrassing for him to mind being discriminated against.

Briala noticed the hedgehog at the counter giving her a scathing look, so she replied with a flourishing bow and a cheeky grin. "And I hope you are well today too, sir," she called, straightening up with the grin still on her face. She glanced at Dengoro, who was staring at her in mortification. Oh dear, I'm embarrassing him. Her grin slid away, and her shoulders slumped slightly. She didn't want to embarrass the skunk; she had already done enough damage to him! Suddenly somber, she filed out the door after Dengoro in silence, dragging her feet slightly.

Dengoro tuned out the hedgehog's soliloquy about how hard it was to acquire good materials for putting shoes together, picking out the price and slapping the nine coins– Far too high for a pair of shoes– on the counter before snatching his purchase and leaving, noting Briala's dejected exit behind him. For a measly set of footwear, it was a serious dent in his budget. It's the lack of competition...

When they had left the shop, Briala paused. "Um...Dengoro, where are you going now?" she asked tentatively. After all, now that she had found shoes for him, there was no need for her to stay. But wandering around on her own seemed awfullly boring now. Plus, she was totally lost, and probably couldn't find her way back to the fort if her life depended on it. Which, if she were left on her own, might very well be true.
