Briala wandered among the Marketplace, humming lightly under her breath. It was nice to get out amongst the public, with nobody knowing who she was or what she did. It was an interesting feeling, knowing that. She could be anyone, and nobody would know.
Or she could be herself, and still nobody would know what to do with her.
She chuckled lightly at that thought, doing a little hop-skip and ending with a twirl. It was hard for her to contain her bubbliness at any time, even at times she should. Like in a crowded marketplace.
"A pretty bracelet for the pretty ottermaid!" A merchant called out, catching Briala's attention. Grinning, Briala twisted around to show the merchant her only tattoo: the blue and red bracelet on her upper arm. "No thanks, I'm good," she replied cheekily, skipping ahead. That was one thing that was a bit annoying: Nobody wanted to sell her cool stuff, like daggers or armor. Always that boring, useless stuff, like trinkets and baubles. Completely useless for a warrior.
Briala trailed along the street until she reached an interesting looking stand. There was weapon stuff...but more interesting. She paused to examine an oriental belt that would hold her daggers perfectly, mentally calculating if she had enough money. "Hmm...decisions, decisions, decisions..." she murmured out loud, running a paw over the belt.

If Dengoro had a bit more money, he probably would have bought a lot more things. In this instance, though, the skunk had a clear objective in mind and... If he could find a stall that sold some nice shoes, he'd be done already. However, he couldn't, and now he wandered throughout the market like a lost mousebabe.
Battle-grade boots weren't so great for wandering around a market. He felt like was constantly about to step on someone's toes and there still wasn't a stall selling what he wanted. Eventually, he all-out bumped into someone, who he didn't know at all, face-on. He practically fell over himself. "Hey!..."

Briala suddenly found herself a few feet to the left of where she was, and a lot closer to the ground. Someone had bumped into her, and she had almost fallen over. Almost, but not quite. Thank goodness for quick reflexes! The belt was still clutched in her hand, and Briala's first thought was, That merchant's going to think I'm stealing this... This someone would pay for pushing her out of the way so rudely.
"Hey yourself," she huffed, unceremoniously shoving her way back to her former position in front of the stand. "I don't know who you think you are, but--" she stopped, for she recognized the one who had pushed her out of the way. Hmm...this could be bad. "Oh, hello Dengoro," she said with a bit less than her usual cheerfullness. Not that she had anything against him (other than the whole shoving her thing), but considering she had almost killed him, she wasn't sure what he would say to her.

Dengoro froze upon seeing who it was he'd bumped into. Out of all the people in the entire marketplace, the entire fort... One in five thousand and he'd picked that one. The first thought that entered his head equated to sheer terror. After all, it was the otter who had slashed his face open! As a result, he found himself rooted to the spot, and absolutely speechless. There wasn't much of a reaction coming to him.
Seeing her get up and address him was another matter. He had to practically physically restrain himself from running away right then, which translated into just taking a step back. Still no speech; what was going on there? The skunk frantically searched for words and found none, just staring at the otter before him.

Briala frowned slightly; there seemed to be a problem with Dengoro. He had completely frozen, other than taking one step back. He couldn't be...scared? If she had anticipated any reaction, it would be anger. She knew she would be ticked if someone slashed her face open, but not scared.
After a moment of awkward silence, Briala spoke again. "Well, this has been a lovely chat, but I need to buy something from this kind merchant right here," she said in a polite, cheerful tone. She had just been about to buy the belt, and could see the merchant getting a bit annoyed with her. "So if you'll please move out of the way..." she paused, waiting patiently for Dengoro to step a few feet out of the way of the stall.

Dengoro nodded slowly, still stunned by Briala's unexpected presence, and made his way out of the stall by backpedaling alone. There wasn't much of a response coming to him so he just stood dumbly in the middle of the market, waiting for... Something, anything, to happen. Part of him was screaming for him to run but it wasn't going anywhere.
The result was that he continued to move back, slowly, away from Briala. All the violence he'd been enduring was now symbolized by this destructive otter and he found himself retreating... Again. Always with the retreating... You moron. What are you even doing?

Briala paid for the belt, almost chuckling at how light her money bag was now. She got out of the way of the stall and unbuckled her current belt, took out the daggers and replaced them on the new belt, then buckled on the new on. She felt a bit foolish, standing there with an old belt in her hand, so she coiled it up and gently placed it in the quiver on her back. "Perfect!" she declared happily, before looking around for the whereabouts of Dengoro.
She saw him a few yards away and still retreating. She frowned again and trotted after him, curious about what he was doing. "Dengoro, what's going on?" she asked, catching up to him. He still seemed frozen, and terrified. Very strange.

Upon seeing Briala approach, Dengoro just plain froze. It was like being approached by an infernal demon, or something to that effect; he couldn't deal with it at all. At least he wasn't moving away anymore. However, he was, of course, still completely incapable of speech. The still-healing cut on his face started to hurt unbearably.
OOC: Short, but I'm busy.

Briala stopped a few feet away from Dengoro, aggressively crossing her arms in front of her. Dengoro's odd behavior was starting to annoy her. After all, she hadn't actually killed him! "I don't know what your problem is! I said I was sorry for that!" she said loudly, gesturing towards the scar on his face. She felt another pang of guilt at seeing it, and she fervidly hoped that it wouldn't stay there forever.

"But I..." Dengoro wished to apologize already but it wasn't possible for him to so much as open his mouth how he wanted to. His words stuck in his throat where they were completely useless and he stared at Briala helplessly. Seeing her angered didn't help at all.
OOC: Obviously, still busy.

"But you...." Briala prompted, waiting for the skunk to continue. The arguing pair (well, only one was arguing) was drawing attention from the rest of the crowds of people at the marketplace. Briala took a deep breath, slowly counted to 10, then released the breath. "I'm sorry for what I've done, and whatever I'm doing now that's making you not talk," she said carefully. "But I would appreciate an answer: what's going on?" She hoped that would be sufficient to make Dengoro talk; this whole silence thing was rather annoying.

Dengoro couldn't believe he was still having trouble speaking. She'd just given him a rational apology and he still wasn't talking. His words kept catching before they could get out of his mouth. Eventually, his heart rate got so high there wasn't much of another choice. "You're scaring me!"

Briala was so surprised at that, she began to laugh. Well that's certainly not going to help, she reproached herself, and managed to stop her soon-to-be hysterical laughter. "Well, I'm...sorry about that," she choked out, still trying not to laugh. "What am I doing, exactly?" she asked in a bemused tone. She mentally retraced her actions since she met Dengoro...as far as she could tell, she hadn't done anything particularly scary. But she could never tell what scared others nowadays.

That was something Dengoro couldn't easily respond to at all. He faltered for real this time, not out of fear but simply out of confusion. Perhaps it had to do with her slashing his face... But that was an accident and completely irrational grounds for fear of her. As a result, his answer wasn't much of an answer at all, but a reason for him to mentally slap himself in the face. "I'm... I'm not sure."

Briala raised an eyebrow, absently rolling her shoulders to readjust the quiver on her back. Hmm...what to do now? she wondered, thoughtfully tapping her chin with her paw. She disliked scaring people for no particular reason...she disliked people not liking her for no particular reason, mostly. And being scary was definitely not being liked.
"Well then what am I supposed to do about it then?" she inquired, recrossing her arms. Her mind came up with a total blank for how to not scare someone when she didn't know how she was being scary in the first place. Truly a puzzle.
