"I guess so. I'm not discounting how comfortable those may be, but what I'm wearing right now, the only pressure I feel aside from my boots on the ground is my belt," Linx explained with his smile returning. "I try and wear the most comfortable clothing I can. Aesthetics take a back seat sometimes... I end up looking like a tyrant, don't I?"

"I've seen a tyrant. Ye look like the watercolour version av one, the kind that good beasts nightmare about without seeing the real thing." she stated, his humour lost on her as the sick sense of memory swamped on her again. She shook it off slowly, eyes hard a moment, before she shrugged "I've little to trade for 'proper' clothes, but my attire isn't important. What about those weapons av ye'rs?" she asked.

"What about them? I'm not carrying any of the larger ones on me. If you want to see one, I suggest we head over to the armory." Linx scratched his neck with a gloved paw, careful not to nick himself with the sharpened diamond points. It wasn't his intention to look menacing– for him, this was totally civilian garb– so the comment of being a watercolor version of a tyrant bounced off him entirely.

"I'd like te see them." she agreed, wanting to have a distraction for now. She watched him move and wondered how on earth those gloves could be comfortable to wear, they serviced well in a fight obviously, still, it seemed enough trouble just to make sure he didn't rip open his skin at each use.

"Well..." Linx started towards a small structure built off the side of the main barracks building. "See that little part off the side of the barracks? Looks like a big brick box with a plate of copper stuck on top? That's the armory, and it's one of my favorite places within the inner walls. You have pretty much all the weapons the fort could wield, and then some, within that place." Since the only real edges on his gloves were the diamond spikes on his knuckles and those were more points than edges, he didn't have to worry that much. It did mean that he couldn't punch anything without leaving four gaping holes in it, though.

Skye looked to where he was moving, taking in the sight of the building and giving a swift nod. "Aye, I see it." she replied, faintly impressed already. "So, those ranged weapons and the more common ones. What about bows and the like?" she asked, curious about the older weapons as well.

"Bows and crossbows... Obsolete, so they're pretty much gone from the armory. The only time you'll see one on an enlisted soldier is when it's privately purchased. All fort-owned ranged weapons are actually ones I've invented... Not to brag, but I'm the primary supplier of ranged weapons now that bow-type weapons are out. I don't even know where the melee jobs came from, though." Fishing out a key from his pants pocket as he approached the armory door, Linx unlocked the grossly thick, six-tumbler lock and swung open the reinforced door to reveal a completely dark room, which Linx promptly fixed by using a pilot flame to light some torches.
As he moved from bracket to bracket, more and more of the array of ferocious-looking but truthfully utilitarian weapons in the room were illuminated. The dancing flames cast grotesque shadows over them and had the mouse not invented what lay inside, he might have recoiled at the sight of some of his creations.

Skye shook her head "I have te admit, the ways things are changing in the regions is a bit disturbing. Though since I'll be being trained on those weapons..I'll use them the best way I can." she commented. And ignore the sick feeling they give when I hold them, she thought.
Walking in, she looked over the weapons, face tightening a little. They were brutal, vicious and deadly, in any hand that held them was a raw power of destruction that made her heart jolt painfully. She clenched a paw faintly and looked at Linx, the firelight casting deep shadows in her eyes "Impressive." she managed.

"They're new. Well... New to society, they've been around here for a few months. In any case, just be happy that this power is on your side." Linx picked up one of the repeaters on the left wall rack and checked to make sure the magazine was empty before cocking, then eventually uncocking it. "It's powerful stuff. Worth the training, I guess."

She shuddered lightly and shook her head once more "Some av the older weapons, the ones with metal coils. I've seen their effects and hated it, anything more powerful then that makes me ill." she replied, watching him work a repeater, stomach churning. "It's just as bad as blades and bows, but the gaping holes they leave behind. How can ye use them?" she asked.

"How can I use them? To defend the fort, yeah... Weapons are intrinsically powerful things. Whether they're more or less powerful is tied to the reason for using them. We don't equip internal sentinels with fire throwers, and we don't give our elites wooden clubs. When it comes to defending our fort against attackers who wish to kill us... We respond with whatever we have to. And in order to keep as many of us from dying as we can, we use the best we have. That's this." Linx removed the magazine from the repeater and set it on the wall, unsure why a stored weapon would have a magazine in it to start. He placed the empty piece of aluminum in an open-topped box marked "MAGS".

She nodded slowly, part of her seeing the practicality, the actual need for it. To defend the fort and the beasts in it was the most important venue for Linx and the others, and she understood that. It didn't mean that those weapons still didn't make her uneasy. "Ye're right." she agreed, a mix of shame and sheepishness running through her at her squeamishness. "How long does it take to learn?" she asked.

"To learn how to use one of these takes about ten minutes. To be able to empty an entire magazine into a target thirty feet away and consistently hit the bullseye takes about three weeks. To be able to use it proficiently in combat takes about a month... Maybe a month and a half. Unlike a lot of weapons... One of the reasons this thing has been so widely adopted within the fort is because it's so easy to use." He couldn't say the same about the repeater rifle, which had recoil capable of knocking a beast flat on his or her back even if it could penetrate platemail like it wasn't even there and, at times, go right out the other side. Of course, that wasn't issued to most troops, since it required specialized training, and Linx wasn't even going to mention it now.

She nodded once more, curiosu despite her reluctance "How soon can I start learning? And I'll be able to use my sword as well, right?" she asked, not wanting to lose the weapon she had the most skill with. "What else are we trained on?" she questioned, pacing the aisles carefully.

"OK, I'll... Answer all those in sequence," Linx replied dully. He just hated it when beasts asked him multiple questions without letting him answer them individually. It wasn't that it was hard to answer, it was that it was hard to discuss each answer on its own. "You start learning whenever your trainer takes you to the range... You'll be able to use your sword, yes. This replaces the bow, not any melee weaponry. And you're trained on unarmed, armed and ranged combat. Plus formation stuff."
