Ellich's life was going well. People started accepting him, and he had a job that filled the empty space where his old life sat. Today, he was in the mood that only an inventor could have. It was storming and Ellich made it to the flatlands with several scientific supplies. However, he wasn't the only one there.

Linx could never resist a good try at an invention. He wore his waterproofed raincoat and pants, with his dull black boots matching the color scheme of the rest of his clothing, but nothing beneath due to how hot the air was. Apparently, Ellich wanted to try something along the lines of capturing lightning; it seemed outlandish but it was always worth a try. "Do you have that kite?" He had to shout over the winds that were ravaging the flatlands.

"That I do!" Ellich shouted. "Brings back memories doesnt it?" The yelling was getting annoying, but there was no other way of communication with the rain roaring down on them. Ellich's idea was indeed to capture lightning, and maybe see what it was, and what can be done with it. "You ready?" Thunder shouted in the distance after lightning struck in the sky behind Ellich.

"Let that thing up there!" Linx was holding onto the reel with his rubber-coated gloves but it was Ellich that held the kite. There was no way for one of them to hold both of the items, as the reel was too heavy in the rain and the kite was getting buffeted about in the wind far too much for one beast to carry it all through the storm. He held up the reel in his paws to signal his readiness, although he was actually a bit tentative. What if I get struck?

"Here we go!" The kite flew upward rapidly. At first Ellich was afraid that the wind might snap the cord, or take Linx with it. In the process though it caught his father's knife. The knife flew up with the kite into the sky. "Whoops!" He scratched his head. "Now all we have to do is wait for lightning!"

"Wait for light-" Linx was cut off by a deafening crack and flash of light at the sky just above the kite. A bolt of lightning was visible for a split second, cutting through the air like a white-hot needle, and then the kite wasn't there. Apparently, the cord had been severed at some point and the kite had flown off into the air; the cord up to the point at which the knife had caught in it was still there and fell to the ground as if knocked unconscious. The mouse was left gaping. "What was that?"

"Err...lightning I guess... I suppose it doesn't like us." Ellich put his paw over his forehead to see farther down the flatlands. "There's my knife!" He quickly scampered towards it. "Come on!" Inside though, Ellich wondered what happened. It was pretty weird and unexplainable.

Surprised by Ellich's ability to see through the rain, Linx shook the water off his head and ran after Ellich at an easy pace, not particularly eager to find what had caused the kite's cord to sever. However, the first thing he noticed when he approached the knife was that the metal was horribly disfigured; it looked like it'd melted. "What... Did it strike that knife?"

"Aww...not the knife..." Ellich reached to pick up when he was shocked. "YEEOWW!" He quickly grasped his paw. "That really hurt...." He turned to Linx. "Well what the heck was that? Little lightning struck my hand..."

"Uh... I dunno, I just... The lightning hit your knife, broke the cord and now it hit your paw. Great." Linx sighed, placing his paws on his hips as he looked at the knife on the grass. It looked like it had been melted slightly. "That thing is... It's... Do you have any clue what just took place here? Lightning hit your knife, and then hit you. Lightning energy got stored in your... Knife?"

"Err yeah I guess... So maybe the lightning can transfer into things? Hmm so lets try putting something else on the kite...or...hmm." Ellich looked over to see the kite destroyed. "Got anymore kites?"

"Oh, sure, I have one in my pocket," Linx replied sarcastically. It wasn't even a real question in his mind. The one kite they brought was bulky enough to necessitate Ellich's holding onto it while he held the reel. Now said reel, loosely clasped between three of his left paw's fingers, was missing a third of its cord and the kite that was supposed to be at the end. "No... I think we have everything we need. C'mon back to the fort... We can talk better indoors!"

"Right..." Ellich and Linx made it to the fort quickly. Soon they were inside of Linx's home and Ellich's home, as well as many other beasts. It seemed to always be empty though... "Well we are back." He took off his jacket but let it hang in his arms.

Linx hung his coat up on one of the wall pegs and actually stepped out of his dripping wet boots and pants as well, leaving him looking slightly provocative in mercifully dry undergarments as he walked over to the couch and sat down slowly. Exhausted from the conditions outside, the mouse reclined to put his footpaws up on the cushion and his head on the armrest. The noise of the rain pattering on the roof was audible from the ground floor. "OK, that was fun. Lost a kite..." He talked with his eyes closed, not caring where Ellich was within the room.

"Thats true." Ellich got rid of the rest of his wet clothes, and headed to a chair next to the couch. "Good times eh?" The house was strangely quiet, besides the rain on the roof anyway. "So what can we conclude about this?"
