Linx opened his eyes to look at the source of Ellich's voice and give the squirrel a shrug. "Lightning is some sort of energy that can be contained in something. That was obvious with your whole deal with the knife... But I have no idea how you'd harness that for anything effective, actually, there's no telling where the energy will go. A target might just not be metal."

"That and, it seems lightning strikes the highest thing obviously and leaves its energy in things, so next we need to tie something to the cord that isn't metal. Dont you think?" Ellich had to think hard on this one. He was dealing with stuff that he had no idea about.

"Well, it didn't hit the kite. It was attracted to the metal... I guess the metal's a more likely target or something." Linx had a hard time shooting in the dark, and not just literally. He looked at Ellich curiously, as if he expected his mate to have an actual answer. "It doesn't look like something I can use, to be honest... I'd need metal wire going all over and I have no idea how to simulate lightning."

"Well I dont know then..." Ellich walked around the room endlessly. "What do you think it is?" He turned to go and light a candle. Just as he touched the metal bottom it shocked him. "Thats it! I just shocked myself... But how?"

"You... Had that energy in you. And you touched something metal. But interesting as that phenomenon is, if you can't get anything controllable out of that kind of destruction... It's not really worth exploring, is it? What is there to..." The comment about metal wires was sticking in Linx's head. Guide the energy.

"So wait... How did I just create this? By rubbing me paws with the socks on right?" So is lightning made by rubbing?" Ellich was getting more of an understanding from this. "Hmmm."

"It sounds like you took energy from something that isn't metal and released it on something that is. Next thing, see what else you can release it on..." Living flesh was next on the list and Linx knew it. He didn't like the idea of being a test subject, though; however, they didn't have anyone else to experiment on and there was little else he could think of doing.

"What do you think?" Ellich pondered for a moment. "What about a beast? Are we able to shock one another?" The possibilities seemed limitless.

"If we are... You know, I was just thinking. That could work, we could try it, but it can't be lethal... Because enough energy to seriously hurt me, if you held it, would seriously hurt you." It was primitive logic but Linx was eager to believe it. He stood up from the couch and stretched his arms while yawning softly. "OK... This should wake me up..."

"Right... So rub your feet across the ground really fast... and... Then touch fingers!" Ellich held out his paw to Linx's. Either he would be killed, or this would be fun. He wasn't sure if he was willing to find out.

Linx wasn't able to effectively rub his footpaws against the glazed floor very well. He ended up giving up and rubbing against the couch instead, which turned out to be far more effective; he walked over to Ellich, extended his paw, heard a loud snapping noise and promptly grabbed his paw in pain. "Ow! What the... That really... Ow. OK, maybe it's annoying, but it's still not a weapon."

"Oww... Well that was interesting." Ellich rubbed his paw gently. "Well that was a bit big of a shock."

"That kinda hurt..." Linx looked at his paw, then at Ellich's. Neither appeared to actually have sustained physical damage. "But it was still not guided well. I could have gone for my belt and snapped my paw on the buckle." He was just resenting it at that point.

"Ugh...I don't even know how this works." Ellich walked over to the chair again and sat down. "I suppose we have to wait for the next storm, and a new kite to test this again... That will take forever..." Ellich had a look of confusion on his face. He just had to figure this out.

"I dunno. I'll write this all down later and have some beasts pore over it for a year. No big deal. Just another... Thing..." Linx sighed in resignation. The whole thing felt like a dead end that he didn't want to get involved with. It was just too risky considering how poor the benefits could be. He decided to change the topic to something nice. "Hey. Ellich... C'mere."
